I feel that there is VERY little traffic through this section of the forum. I know Rx7s aren't the most popular drift car, but they should be near the top! I'm in the process of building my FC just for this purpose. I wanted to start a thread on which LSDs you all have used regardless of vehicle and which do you prefer. Using a stock 1-Way in your 240SX or FC, or maybe your using a 1.5-way Cusco...anybody have opinions on LSDs for reliability, power transfer, etc? I'm looking for a 2-way cusco but have only seen the 1.5-way for sale... I know they make one for the FCs, just need to find it...

Side note...I was reading an article online a few days ago written by SuperStreet (IMHO whom only seems to be fixated on CIVICs and rice in general) but they talked about setting up a car for drift. The article was so full of misinformation, I'm tempted to write them in...they said there were only two types of LSDs 1.5 and 2 way..1.5 way only controlling during acceleration and lacking during braking and the 2 way which controlls during both. I mean, COME ON ...there is more to it then that! A 1-way LSD only controlls during accleration, a 1.5-way controlls during both acceleration and deceleration, but is biased towards accleration and the 2-way is equal biased acel and decel....

ANYWAYS...thoughts??

One320B 12-28-2005 09:30 PM

I'm using a mazdaspeed 2way with great success... locks and spins em whenever i need it.... i was using a stock tII diff for about a month, then came across my MS 2way, it was a definate UPGRADE!! if you're wanting to drift, you NEED to get an aftermarket diff. the cusco 1.5way can be configured to be a 2 way... for more info contact: http://www.napsusa.com

i can't remember the contact's name there, but they're very informative and have decent pricing... also you could go with an os giken 1.5way or 2way... the local distributor for that (west coast) is non fugita... his shop number is: 310-320-8891 hope this helps a bit...

Edgar MSL 12-29-2005 01:38 PM

Deftforce is the way to go

One320B 12-29-2005 03:22 PM

Ah, feedback, lol... any links to this deftforce stuff? I'd like to read up on it if possible, or maybe give somebody a call who can tell me more about it. The price sounds really good!

Thanks for the number for the other OS shop man too, I'll check 'em out..

If the Cusco 1.5way can be configured to be a 2-way..is that what they sell as a 2-way, just a reconfigured 1.5? We'll see..i'm just shopping around finding out what I can before making a purchase, I KNOW i'm not going to keep the stock T2 one I swapped in (my car is an '88SE converted to '91 GTX, so I have the stocker for now)

Edgar MSL 12-29-2005 07:32 PM

Let me post some links up once I find them

vosko 12-29-2005 09:59 PM

edgar get off my forum! jk

any of the diffs mentioned are good but i think os and cusco are more than $1000

djgiantrobot 12-30-2005 01:39 AM

just to note, deftforce is NOT for the timid. Strictly for those on team serious, its makes alot of noise and shakes the car when you're puting around town. For sliding its the best tho, i have the 1.5.

sayin the deftforce is the BEST if a pretty strong statement... i understand it's a personal opinion, but where's the facts? any 2 way will work just fine for u one320b check with these guys.... http://rrr-game.com/ they've had a couple 2way lsds for FC's... and they go for around 500, much better than 1000.... you can also check with Jimmy @ http://pandagarage.com/ they sometimes take special orders and can get u a good used lsd for a fair price... just some other options...

that's unfortunate.... we've gotten 3 diffs from RRR and had good luck with all 3.... RRR gets their parts from UpGarage, they're not a place that sells junk...

the facts are that the clutches are larger than any other diff of the market, i believe its the best differential but everyone is entitled to an opinion. I wouldn't have bought it if i didn't think it was the best and as such i recommend it to anyone who is interested in purchasing a diff. as you said, any 2 way will work, but that is my recommendation.

right on.... would u happen to know the measurement on the clutches? just wondering.... i can't really find to much info on the diff... or u know of a site that has some more info on it...

djgiantrobot 01-02-2006 01:21 PM

i THINK its like 109mm

One320B 01-12-2006 01:47 PM

Thanks for the info guys. I'm waiting on my driveshaft to get done and I'll be moving onto the differential. I'm not new on the race scene, but i have not drifted in a competitive situation..only AutoX. I sold my autoX protege and I really wanted to get more into drifting now that we actually have drift events around here. Thanks for the input, I'll be sure to post what I end up going w/ ...$500 sounds a lot nicer than $1200, but i've learned in the past you get what you pay for and w/ the power output from my motor..i don't know if a $500 dif will hold.

The noise won't bother me...it's a track car, they are supposed to be noisy right? lol.

Ricer240sx 01-20-2006 04:33 PM

im sportin the stock one right now, and had no problems with it what so ever!! i was running stock last season though and i will probably be looking into upgrading it before i bring it back out...... but ill see how the stocker holds up, its is a clutch type thought so im not skert https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Vicious7 01-21-2006 12:42 PM

I'd like to see more rx7 drift cars.

One320B 01-23-2006 02:38 PM

I emailed the guys at deftforce about more information regarding their difs, like specs, torque, sizes, fluids, etc... and I haven't heard anything back..it's been since my last post, so whats that about two weeks now.. I expect responses sooner than that, but I guess I'll just have to give them a call.

I like deftforce for the price it seems they do have a reputable part...probably going to give it a shot...

rx7girltk 01-24-2006 04:01 PM

Just want to tell everybody that I'm a dealer for Kaaz. Pricing for 86-95 RX7's is $805 shipped.

Whats the going rates for rebuild kits for the various LSDs? Any of the LSDs require special tools to rebuild?
