Righto, i've recently done a single turbo conversion on my FD and so i'm only using one of the oil returns on the block now (the front one).
I was planning on using a small plate to cover up the oil return which wasn't being used, but when I was putting it on and putting the bolts back in, I accidently sheared the bolt, and unfortunately the thread is too short to be removed with pliers and there isn't enough room to drill it out. I'm temporarily using the plate, along with one bolt and some hi temp JB weld to cover up the hole which works fine, but its still leaking slightly. Given that I won't be returning it to twin turbos and so don't need the oil feed, am I ok to get the hole welded up to seal it, as i'd imagine that will be a lot easier than trying to remove the bit of the bolt thats left in? |
the rear housing is cast.... can't weld it worth a ****. do a google search for " the yard store" ...they sell aviation tools. go ahead and spend the money and get yourself a 90* drill..... you should be able to get in there to drill a pilot hole with it. Then use an easy-out (a good one,... not the cheap **** from autozone.) these cars are expensive..... even the tools will cost you alot to maintain them.

^ What he said. Are you currently driving the car? The JB weld isnt gonna hold for an indefinite amount of time.

maybe you can put a plug in the hole instead?

Is welding it an option? If so there are plenty of pros that can weld cast.

It can be welded just fine, as long as you get the right person for the job. See if you can find someone to tig weld it with stainless filler rod. That's what I used on an iron that a guy brought to me.(he hit the waterjacket porting it). Some cast doesn't weld well but I found the 88 iron welded beautifully, hopefully yours is the same.
