I have done some searching and cannot find any information on this topic. I've heard that shimming the stock clutch type lsd can be done for a greater lockup. Does anyone have any information on how to do this? If anyone can point me somewhere that has a write up on this or if this is an inherently bad idea I would appreciate it. I would just like to know more about it. Is this a way to extend the life of a worn lsd as well?

Thanks

What forum would you recommend for this thread? This is for my race car and I would think that more people in this forum would know about this topic. To my knowledge, mazdatrix does not sell shims, they sell factory replacement friction discs. Mazdaspeed also sells thicker friction discs, but it says they are only for the Mazda comp differential so I assume it would not work on the stock N/A differential. If anyone knows that these do fit, I would like to know. Please don't make up a response because it's something you "think" will work.

You can make your own shims if you have some super thin sheet metal. like .5mm or .8mm then cut them out in the shape of your clutch disks in the diff..........whola you got a shimmed diff.

this will change the initial torque setting in the diff causing it to lock up earlier. If your diff is worn then eventually it will begin to slip at high loads or break so I would do this in conjunction with a good overhaul. You will want to ensure that the tourque settings are set properly and that backlash is also checked and set properly. In my experience a 10kilo initial torque setting is good.
