Thumbs up

I'm thinking of doing a bridgeported NA 13B (have experience with this)

I want to make it carburated (have no experience with this)

What are some basics of carbing NA rotaries? Bridgeported ones?

Any advice, links, tips, examples, etc?

Thanks

You could contact Mazdatrix, they have a eprod race car running a carb, and that thing has some crazy port timing. http://www.mazdatrix.com

I use a Weber 48IDF on my race car. Very easy to tune and parts available through most forign parts stores.

The Racing Beat catalog has much help for you. Also buying a book on tuning the Webers would be a good idea.

Much easier hook up than fuel injection.

Manifolds available for the early 4 port 13B. But may not be available for the turbo runner sizes.

I would go with a smaller choke size at first to keep off idle close to stock. Maybe

36MM. That should be big enough for 240HP and still give good low RPM performance. At least the poor low speed will be the overlap and not the induction system.

Actually the race car has enough power to idle away from a stand still with some clutch slipping. And that with a 1:96 first gear. Like third in a street car.

There will be less power than stock between idle and maybe 5,500 to 6,000 RPM.

But, when it steps up on the "Cam" there will be a dramatic increase in power.

Fuel consumption will be way up, as you will be blowing much of it out unused, because of the huge overlap. Where the intake and exhaust ports are connected to each other. Good above 5,500 RPM but very bad below.

The idle will be smoothest around 1,800 to 2,200 RPM. It will have a womp, womp, womp, like a piston engine with a huge cam. I like it.

It should be a real scream to drive on the street.

I would find an older cosmo engine (4-port 13b) or something similar, the ports are much bigger than those of the later Six-port 13b, with some porting and the right carb setup... Those things scream....

I think the later six-ports only really run good with FI...

Why not use a modded Nikki? You can get an adapter for the 12A manifold.

Bridgeports are super nice I have heard. But I have never heard of someone doing a NA Carbied BP. That would be quite interesting. I dunno nothing about carb's. I would like to hear how this goes. I will be bridgeporting my 88 within the next few months, and I can't wait for that "Brap,Brap,Brap" sound. Imagine that sound from such a small car?
