I am getting bad breakup over 6500 RPM. I am gonna put in a fresh set of plugs but I cannot help but think its time to upgrade the ingition.



Suggestions?



I am thinking about redoing the entire deal.



Mazdadrifter has a pretty trick setup. 4 MSD Blaster coils and 2 MSD boxes. Bulky, yes but very strong.

Whats your current timing setup in full boost anyways?

17-19° BTDC then it falls off.



Some thoughts or I should say issues I am gonna deal with before changing ingnitions.



My split is 10° everywhere.



I swapped my stock Trailing plugs (9's) for 10's. I did not gap them. I think that may be a problem too.



I have stock 2nd gen coils and Nology wires. I just cannot help to think that the coils are not pulling their weight.

Well I once tried running higher timing after peak torque, which is suppose to be safe by the way and help increase power as the power band moves on, but experienced bad ignition break up. Normally I would run 15-16degrees advance from 15psi and upward, but tried for 18 degrees and it just didn't work. My ignition amplifier made huge improvents in the smoothness of the engine, but was still no help when my advance was too high. So, you could play with the timing and see what happens, but the ignition amplifiers are a good idea either way for a smoother running car and even a few extra horses. Also, I always just ran 9 heat range plugs even at 18psi. 10's just seem like they would tend to foul out too easy. Might be a problem too you never know. my 2 cents.

Look at AEM's C2DI 4 channel. It will handle both leading and trailing (it was designed with this in mind)



2nd gen coils are fine.

Also MSD has DIS Blaster coils for the DIS boxes that are very small. I am unsure

about compatibility of these coils with the C2DI.



I don't generally consider nology wires to be worthwhile, and may be problematic.

(It's clear to me from their website that they don't have any idea what's actually going on.)

Any decent spiral core wire is fine - stock NGK included.

fc's like to break up around 6200ish from some reason. try retarding the timing a little right there
