You know I wonder how much trouble it would be to put some P-exhaust ports on RENISIS housings, perhaps even use the stock ones for added flow? That could lead to some intresting port shapes and such...

I agree with RETed on how restrictive the renisis exhaust ports are. People forget that the motor was built for efficiency, reliabilty and for the most part to pass emissions. The periferal port is the ultimate port design hands down. The thing I like the most of the rx8 motor is its rotors and the compression ratio. I wish someone would come out with higher compression rotors for racing somewhere around 13 to 1 would be great.

The compression ratio for a rotary is limited not by detonation, but by airflow. The recess in the rotor allows the mixture to travel from the rear end of the cylinder to the front end when at TDC. Without this recess being the height it is, the mixture gets stuck behind the flame front and the burn would be horrible.

Come on guys - how much do you expect from 1.3 liters?

Mazda did a great job with overall flow.

The Renesis side intake & exhaust ports do have to make a 90 degree turn, but there are 10 of them..

The intake is tuned more then nearly any other production car.

In all there is not much more room for more NA improvement.

Loosing the cats & tweaking the fuel map is about it.

Or you start over with big boost.
