is there somewhere i can buy a manual rack and pinion for a fd? and if i just take off the ps pump and lines and block it off will it be the same pretty much? and if i do that what could happen to my steering can it hurt anything by doing this?

you must modify a 2nd gen manual rack to fit a 3rd gen if that what you'd like to do, there were no 3rd gens with manaul racks stock.

i installed a line loop in my power steering and the car feels MUCH better and mch more predictable without the jerky power steering.

however modifying a 2nd gen manual rack is better because there are certain components on manual racks which are thicker than power racks.

hope this helps

this is what you need, the auction is over but you get the idea https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.gif http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...3521&rd=1,1

So what needs to be modified? i'll probably run a search for it but figured i'd post here in case I don't come up with much. I was so gonna bid on that rack but was out of town when it ended :(.

i asked the seller that Exact question:

and here's his reply:

end links and rod that goes to steering nuckel

hope that helps https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

to be honest with you ive probably only seen two of these on ebay in the past 4 years. if you want to go manual steering just buy a line loop kit from gotham for $25 or plan to invest $500 in a manual rack conversion. if i were you i wouldnt plan on "finding one cheap on ebay" cuz you probably wont , shoulda asked this question bout a week ago and you coulda bid on that auction https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

and unless you have nothing else on your car to spend 500 bucks on i wouldnt bother with investing 500 bucks in it. probably 90% of fd's that removed power steering out there just use a line loop for 25 bucks and it works fine.

Not really, line loops put ps racks under stress they weren't designed for.

Thats what I always thought. Plus the guy above saying he didn't like the way it felt. Anyone have any first hand experience with the manual rack conversion? daily drivability? etc? i'll probably start looking for the peices, one more step in my quest to completely simplify an FD https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.gif.
