Igy's came that color. I ordered it from summit racing. It's an earls oil cooler, but it has the same core as the setrab, just with earl ends. Basically the same thing. A visual, upclose comparison shows they're the same...except for the end ...no big deal.

FikseRxSeven 08-28-2003 01:37 AM

that thing is almost bigger than my greddy smic

SevenSamurai 08-28-2003 01:42 AM

Just curious what ICs are those? FEED?

IGY 08-28-2003 03:45 AM

Mine is the old style Greddy frontmount slightly modified to ouput 100 mm piping. I believe Jspec's is Feed.

jspecracer7 08-28-2003 03:58 AM

Yep. Mine's a feed. Roughly the same size as IGY's, just different dimensions....except I don't have 100mm piping https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

How about oil temperatures? Before and after? Also what is a good temp to keep the oil at? Right now with my custom oil cooler setup I'm experiencing temps in the 230 deg F range. I think that may be too high. Still need to duct the cooler.

Normally, oil temps were 10 degrees hotter than water temps(so if you had 90c water temps, you had 100c oil temps).

Now my oil temps are 10 degrees lower(90c water temps with 80c oil temps).

I used to run dual stock R1 oil coolers, but went with a setrab 25 row with a fan on the back that comes on when the radiator comes on.

IGY 08-29-2003 01:02 AM

With the 25 row that is on Van's car I was seeing oil temps around 75C. After I switched to twin TO4S's my oil temp was sitting around 85C and my water temp was around the same. With the 34 row I am now seeing around 78C with a smaller fan and the water temps are back down around 80C. When I rail on it the temps go up around 90-95C then quickly return to normal.

After hearing what you guys run for oil temps I better get out to the garage and do some ducting! I'm in the 110-115c range! I think I'm doing damage to my oil control o-rings because after decelerating down a long hill I can see a little puff of blue smoke in the rearview :( Seems to only do it when the car is up to temp though. HOPE it will go away once I get the oil temps down to ~ 80C.

Oh yeah, nice oil coolers you have their! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR

HOLY CRAP!!! That's pretty high. What type of fans do you have? And more important, what temps do they come on at. When I got my fans to turn on at an earlier temp, the water temp as well as the oil temps dropped considerably....like I said 85 water and 95 oil. Now it's 85 water and 75 oil https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

setzep 08-30-2003 11:49 AM

I did some work to it last night and got the temp down to 90c after a hard run on the freeway https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I'm still looking for a oil temperature switch to turn on the oil cooler fan. If anyone knows where I can get a 1/8"npt switch that will turn at ~180-190 let me know! I'm having a hard time sourcing one. I have it wired to turn on with the radiator fan at 188f (water temp) right now but it's not working because the coolant temp is always a TON cooler because it gets more air while cruising down the road. What do you use to turn on the oil cooler fan?

Also I'm not sure if it's possible on your cars but it's best to mount the coolers so the in/out fittings are pointed up to eliminate drainage of the cooler while the car is off.

Great topic!
