Wasnt sure where to put this but i wanted everyones opinion not just a specific model 7. How many people are using an electric air pump or thought about it? I was thinking of putting one in the vert and putting a cat back in. Im not thinking of any gains by not having a belt driven but more the simplicity of an electric one and being able to mount it out of the way. Whats a good pump to get?

I pulled one off a vette. 3-wire. I haven't wired it in yet, because that means I have to unwrap my custom harness. I will get done in the next couple months.

I plan to run the purge (fuel vapor) solenoid on the same circuit.

Couple things I'm thinking about...running it at idle off the fuel pump resistor ~9V, so the pump doesn't burn up (like Wargasm said it would). Then ~2500rpm to ~3500rpm run it off 12V. Haven't really settled on any plan just yet, could turn out it needs to be on 12V at idle and 9V light cruise??? I'll see, hopefully I don't ruin it, testing it.

I'd like to pass emissions with a single, haltech, FD.

Anytime you take a pulley accessory away from the main pulley you add the potential of slight HP gains.

I burned out 2 C5 electric airpumps. Each pump lasted a matter of minutes. I was running them at 12 volts. According to the Vette guys I spoke with they are designed to run for only about 90 seconds on startup.

hmm thats interesting, are there any other pumps anyones tried with success?

I think they run for like 15 seconds every 25 mins or soemthing?

i have an rx8 air pump, its a little more ($250), made by bosch. moves a TON of air. i havent really had it running long enough do test it, or put it on a car.

yeah i was wondering about the rx8s pump let me know when you find some thing out with it mike.

So when i get a electric air pump what will be the best way to wire it up? When does it need to come on and for how long/often? I'll be using the stock ecu so im limitied on what i can do. I thought of putting a relay in so it came on when a sensors sent a certain signal to the ecu but which would be best if this would work at all. If that doesnt work i guess all i can do is have it wired to the ignition or when the motor is actauly on.

Just wire it to a relay. Have a switch in the cockpit. When you pull in for emissions flick her on. No need for some fancy automatic switch.
