hey, i tried doing a search, but came up with nothing. well i know what LSD's do, but i dont know what the different types do; 1 way, 1.5 way, 2 way. can someone please explain what they each do and what each application they are good for? thanks

vosko 05-12-2003 09:45 PM

1 way = lsd works only on acceleration

1.5 way = full lock up on acceleration, 50% lock on decel

2 way = full lock on accel and decel

2 way = good for road racing

1 way = good for drag racing

1.5 way = good for ???

isnt there like blotter lsd too?

mightymouse0x 05-12-2003 09:49 PM

so a 2 way would be good over the 1 and the 1.5? any dissadvantages?

Apex13B 05-12-2003 11:01 PM

2 way = road course racing only

1.5 way = street/ track

1 way= drag racing only

to put it simply, there are MANY types of diffs, that work in all types of conditions (salsbury, cam and pawl, viscious, torsen)

mightymouse0x 05-12-2003 11:40 PM

sorry, for all the questions, but im just tryin to learn bout em. y is the 2 way only road course? what is the disadvantage to using it on the street??

A 2 way lsd can make taking turns a little tricky. It takes a little bit of time to get used to.

I was told by my friend at KAAZ, for drift, he recommends 1.5. He said that very few people use 2 way lsds.

mightymouse0x 05-13-2003 05:52 PM

so i guess 1.5 it is then. do fd rx7's come with lsd's? and what company makes real good 1.5 way lsd's without costing me a fortune

?

loi 05-13-2003 08:06 PM

kaaz only has 1.5 way for the FD, i have them as well as few of my friends.

Mightymouseox, kaaz and cusco is the only company that made them. i go will the kaaz, i heard from many people they are a better unit.

2 way makes the car predictable in both acceleration and deceleration. But it probably wears out the disks inside the LSD sooner.

mightymouse0x 05-14-2003 11:08 PM

hmm how soon? since they are pretty expensive id prefer not to have to replace them a lot. but i guess 1.5 way would be fine for me. considering this will be adaily driven, and once i get the suspension set up good, i will take it auto x

Mightymouse0x: Personally, I would recommend the KAAZ unit. First of all, they are in the US. So, assuming that you were to rebuild the LSD unit, it would be easier to do so (assuming you sent it back to KAAZ). (Cusco has a distributor in the US, no US office yet). Second, the KAAZ units are completely customizeable (sp?). You can ask KAAZ to change the internal plates/discs. This will allow for your LSD to either be more "active" or less "active".

BTW, it is also recommended that you use their diff fluid (or at the very least, use a "quality" differential fluid).

the break in procedure is a pain.... you will get very dizzy...

onboost 05-15-2003 01:41 PM

got to do the figur 8 for a long ass time... weak people will puke hahahhah

mightymouse0x 05-15-2003 11:12 PM

haha fun fun. didnt know u had to break in LSD's, but should be fun. thanx for your help streamline.

onboost 05-17-2003 03:14 AM

cusco makes one that is adjustable 1 or 1.5 or 2 way LSD... pretty cool.

93redfd 05-21-2003 12:12 AM

when they say the lsd(kaaz) works only accelaration, what does it due? In other words, will its help me from getting sideways at 40-50 mph?? Im talking about in drag??

If you didnt brake it in right after installed, is there any turning back, can you go back and brake it in? I have the chance to get one(kaaz 1.5), but it wasnt broke-in when installed. While turning it ,the rear end seems like it does give any. I know the kaaz units are know for this, but I dont think its supposed to be like this. Is there anything I could do to have less clunck in the rearend.? I think this is my first post too, hey everybody.

vosko 05-21-2003 12:27 AM

you could send the kaaz back to them and have them rebuild it again and put in new clutch plates its like $300 i think
