hey... i bought an '88 FC convertible... i want to install a cold air intake, as the exhaust has been modded, but im a bit confused?

this sounds funny... but....

i'm curious as to the "air pump" hose that connects to the oem filter box. also, the wire harness that connects to the filter box.. which is, im guessing, a sensor of somekind...

how can i install a cold air intake with these connected to the box rather than the intake tube itself?

thanks,

mark.

ps. i am a bit mechanically inclined, so you dont have to break it down for me. lol. just tell me the easiest way to do it... thanks again.

The big metal box has the Mass air flow sensor. You need an adapter plate for a cone filter. The other hoses need little filters. Also, FC's came factory with a cold air intake, its already getting cold air. What you need is an ambient air intake(AAI), but you can fashion up a way to get the cold air to the intake. You got this!

ah! duh. should of thought about the pump hose, etc with little filters. now... its not a metal box.. its a black plastic...? if i remove the stock plastic/rubber intake hose (the big, main one to the manifold) where, and how do i place the MAF?

thanks again.

Most people wouldn't put cold air intake on a 13b because the intake would actualy get hotter than it would from stock intake because the exhaust would heat up the Aluminum causing it to heat the air in the intake. I'd go with the AAI

The best and most feasable cold ait intake I have found on the FC is to put something like a NACA duct over the location where a cone filter would be when attached to an adapter as mentioned above. The NACA duct would have to be put on the hood of the car ofcourse, and have sharp (not rounded) edges in order to be effective.
