I posted this question on the other forum yesterday and apparently someone removed it.

Has anyone had a boost solenoid fail with an aftermarket boost controller? I need to buy just a solenoid to go with my Haltech and I'm looking around. GM wants only $42 CDN for the boost solenoid from an GNX, and the local rice shop wants $250 CDN for one from an AVCR. The AVCR solenoid looks a lot tougher, with a metal body and threaded fittings, but I've been told they tend to fail. The GNX one has to be a cheap piece of plastic at that price (the MAP sensor costs $120 CDN in comparison https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR ) The GNX one may not even work properly attached to the top port of an external wastegate.

So, do I spend the money for the AVCR solenoid, or buy the cheap GNX one from GM? Anyone know of any other sources for a quality boost solenoid?

avc-r solenoid is supposed to be good. my friend just picked one up for his sr20det PFC 240sx

The Boost Control Kit for the Power FC is the same as the AVCR solenoid. I think it comes with the appropriate connector is the only difference.

yeah i know. my friend got the PFC D-Jetro. he converted his car to MAP sensor. he has the 3bar denso sensor and FD air temp sensor. all he needed was the solenoid and he has to buy the harness now. i dunno why he needs boost control. his turbo is so small when you push the gas pedal 2% the turbo spools up and bov goes off. its kind of annoying! stupid T25 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

you could use the stock boost solenoid, its even sized right for the stock turbos

I don't have stock turbos. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I need something that can move some air, because I have 2 TiAL 35mm wastegates to control. I got rid of all my stock solenoids last week. I thought about using 2 stock solenoids, but I don't know how much current each draws and I only have 1 amp to work with.

I've found that FJO, the wideband people, sell a solenoid that might work. Also has a metal body like the Apex'i, is cheaper and I'd be supporting a homegrown company. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I think I'm going to splurge for the AVCR solenoid, though the local guy is asking a ridiculous price.

my buddy is using an obd2 vapor solenoid as a bigger boost solenoid on his fd, ust throwing out ideas

What's it look like? How big is it? I'm really getting to like the idea of the threaded fittings. I'd like AN (Aeroquip) line to the wastegates and boost solenoid for some reason. See my Illness Thread.

my blitz came with ss braided vacuum line https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

it looks like a stock solenoid except the hose nipples are 6mm, they have larger ones too
