Air pump removal?

are there any gains while removing the air pump? what kind,does the motor need it?thanks for the answers

If you have a catalytic conveter then you need it. It also activates the 6 port actuators on 89-91 non-turbo cars. Removing it can probably help a little bit.

so if i remove the air pump and replace the cat with a pipe the ports will still function normally without the air pump,it is a non turbo 1990 gxl,thanks

No, the ports won't open.

what are the advantages of removing it on a 87 T2 i bought the car with it already plugged, im putting a block off plate there soon as i get my shipment from mazdatrix....

On a TII it will help clean up the engine bay alot, and you may gain a bit. You'll want to with a dual alternator pulley in the future.
