what is the advantage of a v-mount? doesn't a FM get more cooler air?

yayer 11-15-2003 09:31 PM

hrmm.. V-mount design gives priority to both radiator and intercooler, they both get fresh cool air. FM design puts the intercooler in front of the radiator, SM design puts the radiator in front of the intercooler. personally, ive always liked the V mount design. You also dont have to worry as much about all the damn rocks and **** flying into and getting stuck in your fmic, you wont even notice. i guess it also has a bit of a sleeper effect because one of the first things someone looks for to see if your car is modified.. after a fat ass exhaust is a fat ass intercooler. kinda tricky https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

who all makes a v-mount besides rotary extreme( kinda pricey) I thinkt that fmic will make more power on colder day though. If you ever have to drive in heavy traffic then the fmic is a no no. I live to tuscaloosa Al and it not even a big city and i notice my water temps get kinda warm some times, once they start rising they dont stop.

I dont think there is a proof over performance wiyth any of the intercoolers. If I had the cash I would do the v-mount.

i think rotaryextreme is the cheapest v mount you're gunna come across....... unless you're into customizing..... then you'll save a huge amount of money

Knightsports and a couple other japan tuners make vmounts... check out jt-imports.com i believe rotary extreme is the only us vendor to make a vmount setup.

I'm pretty sure HKS USA makes a V-mount but for the price forget it, stick with Rotary extreme.

apexkw 12-04-2003 12:44 PM

i saw that cossie had the hks vmount but i wasnt sure if it was a us version or not. i didnt like how the vmount sat in that setup at all though. the radiator tubes ran all the way to the front bottom of the rad..across the top of the rad. it jst didnt impress me at all. i use the apexi gt spec intercooler for single turbos and its pretty nice. it sits farther back in the bumper so it s less prone to rocks and debris. my friend has the rotary extreme vmount and i am really impressed with the kit. the only thing that i dont like is the endtanks but hey he post better air intake temps than i do by at atleast 10c

mazdadrifter 12-04-2003 02:37 PM

will someone post a pic of this setup?? Im curious

Anyone want me opinion? (NO!)

Well hear it comes.

I have NEVER seen a street car with a V-mount set-up and only a few select set-ups on RACE ONLY cars. Why is this? Hummm I have thoughts

I think personally unless you duct the rad to the V-mount and im talking like almost weld it so you cant get any air around it, it would be a good thing, granted this takes money, custom hood, custom ducting and a lot of LOOT and TIME. Badarse? I think so.

Street car--V-mount I think your cooling is limited, hot air rises. Most Newer front mounts solved this problem along with MOST V-mounts, havent seen them all of course.

As in street car, I mean a weekend drive out of the streets, occasional drag or 2, and maybe to work a few times a week.

Both are good, I like my FMIC just fine that I have no reason to clutter up the engine bay, its funny people want to remove everything and then put something back in its place? hummm

we sell approx 5 V-mounts and these are all from deferent companies, they are all pretty close to the same, little different piping, thicker, different end tanks etc..

I almost bought a v-mount sideported blah blah blah blah for another FD a while back to beat up actually, but I changed my mind, sure looks pretty though, but sure looks empty in the front of the car in the bumper area when your hood is closed.

2 different looks, 2 different types of people. Maybe we can make a V-F IC? hehe and have the best of both worlds.

I just looked over my post and it says pretty much nothing, so sorry about loosing that 20 secs of your life.

Different strokes for different fokes
