I am currently working on restoring a 1973 RX3. This car is being brought back to the street from a racing life (mostly stock class). Right now the car is very loud and I'm trying to bring the noise level down a little to pass inspection with the DMV. Good thing about Oregon is no DEQ on a '73 but they will still nail you for noise to get i licensed.

Right now the car is a 12a streetport, with Weber 48 DCO carb and custom exhaust. It's dual exhaust - each rotor has it's own pipe running straight back into a muffler with 2 input and 2 output - no cat.

Has anyone run a similar set up. The car is very quick and a blast to drive. I don't want to lose any power with a restrictive muffler. I am thinking about a Magnaflow muffler with dual inlets/outlets or running a single round muffler on each pipe then welding the mufflers together to mount them. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I still want to the car to sound good, I don't want it to sound like a Honda. Any and all help (suggestions) are appreciated.

Thanks,

-Chris

I'm not sure man. try www.rx7.com go into exhaust and look around. you might have to take off the custom pipes or customize those mufflers. like i said i dont know

I have always been amazed by just how much muffling a borla can do being a straight through muffler. The fc pre-made borla cat back, seriously takes an n/a from obnoxious to dialy driver, with 2 mufflers.

I don't know if I'd suggest running them alone tho, maybe use two borla's as presilencers, to 2 mufflers w/ tips at the back borla, or any brand. I'm running a 3" in/out as a presilencer in my exhaust and at wot, wastegate open and all, it's about 2 steps over stock. It has a really good tone tho, even when it gets some volume, it never gets obnoxius.

get 2 of the longest glass packs you can find, and then 2 turbo style mufflers, that works great.

or buy 2 turbo 2 racing beat presilencers, and 2 turbo style mufflers, also works great

Thanks for the suggestions. But for those of you who are thinking it, no I do not want to sell my exhaust. I think what I may try is 2 new mufflers and if they are too loud add a presilencer into the mix.

Thanks,

well in that case, i have been told anyways, that you should have both pipes come together before the end because of the pulses and you will actually be losing a couple hp by runnung true duals

Thanks, this is exactly what I was hoping for. If I just run the exhaust together at the muffler using a 2into1 will this help with the pulsing or should I run them together before it gets to the muffler and how far before it? What if I created a modified H-pipe with 2 individual mufflers? Thanks for the help.

i would say run them together right before the last muffler
