i was thinkin about how much gas i put in to my s10... I put about $100 a weekend on it.. I was fine with it till i added it up. i only commute usually monday and friday since i am out on the big rig the rest of the week.. put over 20k miles on it since i got it in july.. so the crappy mileage is during traffic and running errands on the weekends.. it would be nice to get something a tad more efficient/economic (although its like a paradox since i would have to spend to buy it) yet still have the option to mod it and make it look sexy and have room for four.. Well now that i moved to a new place i wont really be needing the s10 truck as much.. I was thinkin of gettin a used like 99-06 jetta or golf tdi.. they get nice mileage and all and the diesel price is more stable it seems now. any of you guys ever had one of these.? i really like the kits and styling that can be achieved with them.. it would be my money saving econobox.. so i can put more money into the repu..



try to stay under 20k.. hopefully can get it in the next few months if they seem reliable and dont have many drawbacks.. im sure its not the fastest or zippiest car in the world. but hopefully its still responsive enough..

I've known people who owned some older diesel VW's and loved them. They were decently torque-ey, but by no means fast. I really haven't heard much about the newer ones, other than they get great mileage. This country seems unreasonably anti-diesel when it comes to cars, and it pisses me off. I really want to see Audi bring some nice diesels to the states--soon! Hopefully the other automakers will wake up sometime thereafter.

I should get one and siphon diesel from the freightliner's tanks before i leave the yard.. the truck wont even miss the measly 12 gallons it'll take to fill er up... lol.. Yeah my dad had an older jetta, 85 i think. great mileage.. it was a nice car.. cept it needed tons of tlc.. so a newer one might be just the ticket.. im tryin to think more economically since soon i will be starting a family, I know you know where i am coming from.. hell kids might not come for like a few years.. but i'd rather prepare than be caught unprepared.. and the repu can be the money pit for now.. specially since i can occupy myself with all the little tedious details that still need to be done, without spendin much on it.. i always liked diesels.. and the sound does not bother me at all..

Simple yet sporty even the wagon

Yup. I likes the wagon.

A couple at work just grenaded the motor in their 2002 TDI Jetta. They were unable to find another motor, apparently they aren't the only ones.



The fuel mileage is very tempting and I like the style of the current Jetta, now that it has a functional back seat. The other nice thing is that the resale is high, because there are a lot of people out there who for some reason consider them reliable.



I would never own one that wasn't still under warranty. Buying a new fuel pump for one of those is bloody expensive, if the pump dies before the motor.

Used to drive a 1.9 tdi, solid engine, go for it.

but the diesel is also like the rotary in the sense that it needs different type of maintenance.. lots of people dont give them the proper care so they get fugged up.. I would be willing to gamble.. if it blows up I will let me dad have it.. he love tinkering with diesels.. hahaha.. hes had all sorts of diesels here and in Nicaragua.. i think he gets a woody thinkin about them..

BMW will be bringing over the diesels in 2008 as well as a more affordable 1-series. I believe Mercedes has already started and will increase in 08.



Ford makes Diesel cars but only sells them in Europe - go figure.



I believe it was in Grassroots motorsports where they did ~$800 in mods to a TDI Bug and had huge amounts of torque (400+?) and decent hp (150+?).
