supposively the glh does go like hell! lol i just cant picture a turbo being under the hood of that ass ******* ugly car,lol just my .02 cents though
|
i'd daily drive one......... put a T78 on that sucker https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

People were modding the GLH years before the RX-7, it was ugly, but it was light as well, I knew someone that had one, and a small turbo Renault, the Renault was no joke though, I forget the model, but its a serious car.

OMNI GLH
I thought it stood for Great Little Hotrod They were the first (and last?) to use a variable vanes to change the pitch of the airflow on the impeller. 175 HP? 2.2 liter |
No, Vosco is right, it really stood for Goes Like Hell, it was actually a Carrol Shelby car.
|
That's silly. No matter how fast it went, you'd still be driving an Omni, and that's just sad.
|
haha, yeah, stil a onmi but id daily drive it and t78 turbo as well, lmao, mu ha ha ha hah aha possible? i dont have a clue?
|
It was a Box, but this was back when the RABBIT was cool. Or Ah well at least the GTI
Everybody got in on the BOX on wheels... Honda Civic, Ford Festia, then the Escort, Fiat 128, and of course the Dogde Omni. I remember reading of a guy with a 13' sec 1/4 minivan with the 2.2 GLH engine in it bolted to a Automatic no less. Never drove one, but I would guess 2nd gear speed shifts would be a bitch with all that FWD torque steer. |
i saw one at the track runnin 13's.coolest thing ive ever seen.he had a daytona head on it 8valve.ewww.but besides the point he was smokin
mustangs.lmao https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
Ahhhh the good old days... I remember the GLHs... along with the 323 GTX, GTI, SVO and all the rest of the econo rockets.
These cars were bad-ass! They were pocket import performance before there ever was such a thing as a rice-boy. Respect your elders boys... they might just spank your ass (http://www.thedodgegarage.com/friends_dan_c.html)! :smirk: |

I got rearended by an Omni in my 86 GXL. My car faired much better than the Omni did however.
|
SVO's were not cheap though...
dont forget about the VR4 Galants back in the early 90's either! |
well an omni is a golf a2 and i like golfs but they only had vw motors for like the first year or so than they swithced to a mitsu motor...im guessing that is what the turbocharged one is???
i would love to have a 323gtx https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif |
I know someone who has 2 of the fuggers, you can pick them up for like $500 any day of the week.

My buddy has one of the bread-and-butter plain Omni's from the same era, and its just plain awful. It might be fun to have a GLH, but I'd have to wear a ski mask while driving it, so people wouldn't recognize me. |
They may be ugly, but there is a guy (a team really) that has one near me. He auto-x's it a lot and he is usually faster than the RX-Midget. He is a very good driver and runs full slicks (I'm on DOT's), but the car deserves respect! I think he finished 2nd at the last Grasroots Motorsports $2002 challenge (drag, auto-x, and show).

I had one of them, fast (for a k car) but handled like ****.
