The STi should be significantly faster than the EVO and have a LOT of tuning potential. The STi is expected to do 0-60 in under 4 seconds, which is hard to beat. I would guess that the EVO will do high 4s, depending on driver. As for looks, there are things I like and don't like about all of them, and I still don't really like the front end of my WRX. Of course, you can't see that from inside the car.



All I know is my WRX does 0-60 is 4.3 seconds, which will show 98% of the cars I run into on the street my taillights, and is a blast to drive off road, since I'm into driving road rallies and rallycrosses in either the dirt or the snow, depending on season.



Either of the cars, though, are good packages, offering great performance values for each of their costs.

I'm a subaru guy, the older 2.5rs called the gm6 in the u.s a nd the wrx was the gc8 is nice but the current GDA is much better overall. I have the stock suspension on mine but i have different tires. There are actually pretty many guys that run a stock suspension, the weakness is in the stock tires. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png Guy in our club came in second overall at a d.c. area auto-x and all he had were some victoracers. It's a good car, but i bought the seven because i wanted something that i could dominate the track days with, plus i don't have to worry as much seeing as it is 15 years old.

New style. The 2004 is a lot nicer looking than my '02.



At the same time, a redesign isn't slated until 2007, which means the '02 and '03 will be a lot less common, if you're into that sort of thing.

Car and Driver and Road and Track both have the STi and the Evo in

them this month, read closely, the STi they test is the Jap version

that is lighter ( thinner roof, thinner glass, no ac, no radio,no sound deadning, etc...)

and the Evo is the US spec version with full amenities, both have the same HP, but the STi beats it because of the weight advantage.



Too bad we wont get that version.



And both magazines say the same thing: "276 hp is the japenese auto manufacturers gentlemans HP limit aggreement" Both cars amazingly have exactly that.

I dont get the whole HP aggreement thing being as thier are jap cars with more HP

wrx: i know some of you have them, but there is one thing that goes wrong A LOT. if you research about the wrc wrx's they change trans' more than ANYTHING. lucky for wrx owners though, warrenty cover a new man trans, and if you can milk the system for others that blow on you, youll be happy with the car.

my friend had one when they first came out, with a few mods, and went through 3 trans in 8k miles. all warrenty though. if you baby the car it will be kinda slow ( 6k street launches seem fun?? ). drive it like ya hate it, definitly a fun thing when it isn't your car and suby give u free trans'

While I agree that the tranny in the WRX is clearly the weak link, because there have been a lot of replacements, you can't really equate anything on the road car to the WRC version. The trannies are totally different, fully sequential, hydraulic actuation, computer controled diffs, paddle shifter, etc. It would be like saying you aren't going to fly in a passenger jet because of what happened to the shuttle. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

The US version of the STi has a 2.5L engine versus the Euro and Jap versions that have a 2.0L. While the US version will be heavier than the one you guys mentioned, since it'll have AC and all the other normal road car equipment, it will be faster than the US version of the EVO8. Subaru stepped up to the plate and gave us all the bells and whistles (and then some, eg. the 2.5L) where as Mitsu screwed us again by taking the cool stuff off; active center diff and yaw control.

Depending on the price difference, I think the STi will be very popular
