Some would say it's Ed's fault cause he has a subaru but that's not totally true. My dad has owned two new cars in his life, one was a Subaru Brat the other a DL Wagon.

I always wanted an SVX

Whatcha think?

UniqueTII 07-26-2003 12:12 PM

I would say it's Ed's fault.

I've wanted an SVX ever since I was a wee lad. I'd just have to have enough loot for a manual conversion right away.

why do you like them so much? I hear they are crap for acceleration, but once you get them going they're good. 3.3L engine, with 3800 lbs or something?

BigTurbo74 07-26-2003 04:11 PM

Yeah heavy as ****.. decent engine from what i heard... they look awesome. all glass canopy is crazy

evilT2 07-26-2003 05:13 PM

3580lbs actually. 0-60 in 7.3, 1/4 in 15.4, 239hp

not a bad vehicle and a good one can be had for 5k

UniqueTII 07-26-2003 05:19 PM

That's some pretty decent performance for a bigger car with AWD. I'd like to test drive one one of these days to see if I could put up with an automatic for a while.

evilT2 07-26-2003 05:24 PM

I think im going to try and land one of those for my next car. The only problems they seem to have are poorly built trannys that die at 150k unless you install an external transmission cooler.

Rotarydragon 07-27-2003 12:31 PM

Yeah allthough I'm told any SVX that's still on the road right now most likely has all the fixes done. Even still spend the $80 - 300 to get that cooler installed.

There's a company that will convert it to a 5 speed for 4k or you can buy the kit for about 2.5 k and do it yourself.

I'm gonna get one of these if I can pull it off.

Fingers 07-27-2003 12:35 PM

I've owned one, actually it was my last car.

Cons:

Heavy as ****.

Slow as ****.

Fragile as ****.

Expensive as **** to maintain. (trannies and wheel bearings suck on them)

Parts are expensive as ****. (tranny rebuild quoted at $3800CAN, bearings cost $250CAN EACH)

Stock paint sucks.

Pros:

Fun to drive

Handles relatively ok for a car that size

Luxurious

TONS of looks, everyone either loves it or hates it

FUN winter driving https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I've wondered how good of cars they were in the past.. Never really thought about buying one though.
