I have a 12a powered VW Bug, after installing a Weber IDA carb and a totally straight through exhaust, getting 1700lbs of car moving happens really fast! Check it out and the conversion at my website. http://www.geocities.com/zenjoe/vw.html

Very cool... How long did it take to complete the conversion? I was thinking about shoe horning a 13B

into a '69 bug.

wicked.

maybe ill try that on my KGhia after all.

tha car directly in front of you looks a lot like my dads.

hows the noise on that beast??

The conversion is actually not that difficult. You can buy the adapter from kennedy engineering, the motor fits in the engine bay with NO modifications. Getting a 13B in a bug will require you to atleast trim the apron (because the engine is longer) also, because of the fuel injection and manifold, you will probably have to space out your decklid. Also the conversion to a fuel injected engine will require much more wiring than a carby. It took me about 2 weeks to do the conversion

As for how loud it is...I have a racing beat presiliencer going to a magnaflow muffler... All of it is sraight through... it is actually pretty quiet at idle. But it is goddamn loud when I open it up! I have not heard another rotary powered car sound like mine, it has a very very deep and bassey sound, with absolutely no high pitched sound whatsoever. Most people really like the sound.

Well I don't have to worry about fuel injection on my 13B, but I'm a little worried about the transaxle. I read somewhere that Kennedy Engineering recomends the van transaxle for rotary conversions. How is your tranny holding up with all that rotary power? I also think the raditator will present intresting problems, and I may try something unconventional. This project won't get off the ground for sometime though. I've got to do a little research, and some restoration first.

Thanks for the info Zenjoe.

The volume of the exhaust could a result of the shorter exhaust system you have. Am I correct in assuming your engine isn't street ported? Just imagine what something like a bridge port would be like...

One last thing if you have any pics of the exhaust system could you post them?

Thanks in advance.

You are correct, The motor is basically stock. No porting has been done...yet. I have some radical street ported irons that I want to make an engine out of.

I have a diagram of what my exhuast looks like on my web page in the conversion pictures page if you want to check it out.http://www.geocities.com/zenjoe/vw.html

As for trannies...My KCR pro street tranny is holding up fine for the moment. I am running a swing axle, which for some reason don't like rotaries. I have gone through 2 stock trannies and 1 Transform tranny. when deciding on a tranny make sure that you get a good one that has good parts in it. ONLY go to RANCHO or KCR for your transmissions!! In an IRS car, things tend to hold up a little better. My buddy in his streetported 12a, IRS equiped, 54 oval hasn't had any tranny problems and his tranny is stock. The BUS transmissions are stronger so if you want to get one of those, it couldn't hurt. But getting one of those built is a lot more $$$. Hope this helps.

You should get your motor street ported, the 13B I have is street ported... it's just LOUD. I'm not sure to what to do about the exhaust since I won't be the only one driving it. I would be inclined to run something with less bends, but that wouldn't be ideal for most people.

Unfortunately the VW needs a lot of other restoring before I can atempt a conversion. Soon though... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
