Ok, heres the deal i got this vette owner, actually its his dads, and hes talking mad smack to me about rx7s and so forth, he also knows nothing about them https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif He says his dads Zr1 has 500hp at the wheels, and w/o nitrous, super or turbocharger. So im guessing no standalone too! so is this possible? i know they came with like 380hp stock, but either way he wants to race and we are gonna as soon as my car is done. So let me know if this is possible??? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

I'm not much on piston knowledge, but if it were bored or stroked out, and had every conceivable modification, barring forced induction or nitrous, I think it might be possible.

500 rwhp in an n/a V8 engine?...quite possible...LOTS OF WORK...but still quite possible.

I called BS on him, i know hes bs. Hes just a big vette fan, i'll inquire more, if hes not gonna be a jackass about it.

My cousin had a 1991 ZR1, they are pretty much tuned to the max right from the factory, even a exaust is useless on them, doesnt give them any horsepower, ask him EXACTLY what the mods are and more importantly WHO DID THEM. If he says some **** like "new cams", you know right there he is absolutely full of ****. If he says some **** like "had the heads done", ask him who did them and what was done to them, because the only guys who have gotten anywhere near 500hp from a ZR-1 are the likes of Lingenfelter and Callaway, and those cars all were magazine cars with 368 stroker motors in them. But 500hp on a N/A small block is VERY possible, not that hard actually considering you can order one right out of the Summit catalog ready to DROP into your car ( including a Rx-7, hehe ), you can get yourself a 675hp/685ft lbs of torque SMALL BLOCK chevy engine delivered to your door including the dyno sheet for a cool $10,495... oh thats carburated by the way, imagine what the likes of Lingenfelter does with his fuel injections!

the zr1 is tuned alot more than the ls6 from the zo6... plus the zr1 is dohc while the ls6 is pushrod. id say a z06 could go over 500... i just saw some chevy projects ones that push around 500 rwhp.

Dont knock pushrods, there are pushrod engines that are over 4000 horsepower. The only 500+hp ZR1 though are mega dollar cars with stroker engines, unless they have some nitrous.

A pushrod rides up and down on a lifter that rides on a camshaft, camshaft is driven by a chain or a gear drive from the crank, crank turns which has connecting rods bolted to it them, on those connecting rods are pistons, when the piston reaches the top of the cylinder, it fires from the spark plug which is charged from the ignition system, a distributor- which knows when to ignite each spark plug because the distributor is connected to the camshaft via a gear, ( or no distributor as well ), then fuel entering the engine thru the fuel system either carburator or fuel injection travels thru the intake manifold, from there the fuel enters the head, then thru the intake valves in the cylinder, the fuel and the ignition 'explode' creating compression, and is exausted out the exaust valve. Pushrods open and close those valves.

Do you even know if it has the 'stock' motor block? I've seen a few 'Vetts with big blocks in them.

My 460 ford (more like 500ci) will put out about 550hp and a tad over 500 ft/lbs of torque. Bowtie motors are similar - he could be running a worked 502ci motor https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

remember - anything is possible...

I doubt he is making enough power to even go mid 13's... THe ZR1's did make around 380-390hp but just didnt run all that well at the track. To be honest a bone stock low buck C5 6 speed will outrun it....

THE ZR1's cost a lot of money to buy to run to modify and to keep up.

Z06's are a lot I mean a lot faster!

A few bolt ons to a TII and it should take out a ZR1. I have raced one before... and all the way up to around 90-100 I had him though he began a slow pull and caught up and passed me at higher speeds.

But seriously ask him about his mods....

Oh and Ford makes a crate motor... the 516 based on the 460 block which does 600hp straight out of the crate with pump gas..... I mean like 87 octane.... plus it costs well under 10G's.

But to be honest 500hp out of a smallblock is not that hard anymore...

Simple **** like shaving the heads... more aggressive cam or cams better intake more fuel etc etc etc....

it all nets pretty nice gains....

Buddy has a 454 out of a 78 Suburban... paid 800 dollars for a rebuild.

Went up to 12.5:1 compression ported and polished the stock heads. Bigger valves stock valve springs 700CFM 4 barrell Holley Carb Msd Ignition

It pulls the wheels off the ground in 2nd and running a full weight 68 Chevelle gets him 12 flat consistent... He has 3700 bux in this car... so thats not bad at all! It even runs off pump gas.... though it is 93 with octane boost..

But that is about all he did to get into the 12's.... and a chevelle isnt any lightweight...
