Looks dope, although I wasn't happy with the thought of a completely totally different design...they should have designed it from the R34.

Midnightdriver 10-19-2007 01:08 PM

they are going to be over 70k...a rich lawyer here in town already put 20k down on the first one in Reno.

RX7 13B 4 UR AZZ 10-19-2007 04:35 PM

Rotary_Engaged 10-19-2007 07:25 PM

Going to be faster than 99% of anything on the road. and that last 1% is going to be other high-end sports cars. Very fast for the cash.

It's soooooo ugly! Bastard child of a current-gen Eclipse and a 350z.

I'm sure the technology is amazing but the car has no soul.

Maybe my opinion will change if/when I see it in person.

inanimate_object 10-23-2007 06:26 AM

So you guys are finally getting skylines? That's great, cause you'll finally get to see how overhyped they are!

Wonder why they switched to a v6? Maybe the balancer shafts add bhp?

Not many I-6 motors left in the states now. I am guessing it is due to emissions? Jeep dropped the 4.0L due to emissions (rumor I heard, so don't quote me).

The car looks nice, but the price tag is insane. I am glad they put a large price tag on that though. So every Skyline fan boy won't buy one.

spaceman Spiff 10-25-2007 10:26 PM

saw one a few weeks back, imported im guessing maybe it was being tested, was parked outside my buddies apartments. all black, looked sick as hell

toplessFC3Sman 10-28-2007 04:29 PM

The I6 is just terrible to package... a long, tall, heavy motor (especially when made of iron like the RB series), and im pretty sure it couldnt pass emissions here in the US anyway. Switching to something based off the VQ is a better choice for the power they're looking for, but i dont know if it'll be more resistant to turning up the boost.

They didnt exactly make it easy to throw on aftermarket turbos tho... the stock manifold and turbine housing look to be one solid cast piece.

Amen. My friends tried to convince me to get an R32 rather than my FD. (do the whole buy/register in Canada thing) They are rather heavy, at least for my taste. Ask someone in Japan who the king of the mountain is. They will tell you (and it ain't the skyline lol) The car reminds me so much of the movie Big Fish. The fish is always bigger if you weren't there to see it.

Is the car supposed to look like a poorly designed Audi or is it just me? Crap that thing looks huge. Is it supposed to be a decent performing sports car? uhhh https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.gif

LOL - It does kinda look like that! I don't think it is ugly though. I still think that the R34 GTR's were the nicest looking Skylines, but that is just my opinion. I still wouldn't give my FD up for it though!!

SunDown13X 01-25-2008 09:20 AM

dont really like the way it looks... but im sure its going to kick ass

circuit theory 02-12-2008 02:19 AM

I like the way it looks, the 32 and 33 didnt look like each other and they sure as hell dont look like the older ken and mary's. The new one is fitting and one hell of a car. I would take one over an FD if it was offered in a manual and if Nissan had not put so much effort into making it so hard to modify. Such as the single unit turbo's, speed limiter (atleast in japan, US might get lucky there), ECU that controls everything from A/C to Window to Engine to Tranny to ..........

It wont take long for someone to crack into that ECU and be able to put out some more power and also have a piggy back kit to install a stand alone ecu but also keep the stock ecu's amenities.

becareful guys cause this car put down 103 at Tsukuba with stock everything including breaks and tires. The 99 Spec FD put down a high 106 along with the R34 when they were released!

This car will turn heads and unfortunately will kill some people.

The whole Godzilla hype has been drawn out far too much. Someone said it earlier, and the fact of the matter is skylines are all about hype. They have no soul, no personality. The R35 is not even a GT-R in the strictest sense. It's more like Nissan's M5. It's huge, not particularly good looking, but still hauls ass if you want when you're taking your kids to school. Except the M5 has a truly luxury interior, Nissan opted for a cheap interior and instead focused on performance that is mostly harnessed by assists. It's an engineering marvel, but that's all. Even the ugly look is purely for a low drag coefficient. If the FD can have as low a drag coefficient as it does and still look as good as it does, Nissan surely could have done better here.

Edit: Wow just realized this is my first post. Been reading this forum for months but never took the time to post...except to trash skylines. This is a bad omen for the quality of my future posts haha

Nate123: I am not sure if you have ever driven any GTR's before but I definately agree with you about he Godzilla hype. They are not that crazy of a car and are quite slow even when modified if you get on the gas below boosting RPM. I drove this GTR around to test it out before shipping it out and I was not to impressed with them. The R32 would be my pic of the previous skylines if not a Ken and Mary old school GTR.

However I do have to disagree with you on the new GTR, the R35. I have not had a chance to drive this yet but the few people that I know that have driven it as well as many other cars since they write for magazines here in JP have said nothing but good things about. It has the weight of something that should handle like a boat but it is said to handle and respond like a Mazda Miata. The whole rear mission thing is similar to the porsche 944 but more so taken from the JGTC cars since they all run the same mission set up for the most part.

The styling leaves a bit to be desired but that is to be expected. Nobody liked the new Z when it came out but now everyone says they liked it from the start. I think the new GTR's design will grow on people. I am eagerly awaiting a true manual version as well as a chance to drive any version of it.

Oh here is a pic of the car I test drove for a bit. It was 650hp + or -.

Never said it can't turn, just said it's heavy. It's got a curb weight of about 3800 lbs. My problem with the GT-R is simply that it lacks any real personality. Partially this is due to the styling inside and out and partially due to the fact it has very little tunability. The GT-R has such good performance in many areas because of the extensive role of the ECU. Thus it handles surprisingly well for it's size. But it also is more electronic in nature than mechanical, and I'm a gearhead. Wiring a new speaker system or trying to get an ECU working without a damn-near plug and play harness is not what I call fun. Similarly, tuning a GT-R in many regards will be simiarly agonizing. Therefore not my type of vehicle. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif
