I saw a review of this Benz on Speed last night...something like 495 hp, 0-60 in 4.5, and 20mpg on the highway. I'll take it.

93 R1 10-04-2002 12:59 PM

I hope you got 130,000

UniqueTII 10-04-2002 01:06 PM

Ha...you'd have to move that decimal quite a few places before I could afford it, but I think it's worth it.

1988RedT2 10-04-2002 01:10 PM

Looks ricey to me. I prefer the looks of the FC.

:rice:

They're cheaper too!

evilT2 10-04-2002 01:35 PM

rice? you must be insane. have you ever driven any of the SL series? those things are nice as hell, they handle great, have an uber smooth ride and have gobs of power and torque. its fine german engineering, its anything but rice.

Nope. I'm as sane as you are. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I know its a fine German automobile. I like fine German automobiles. My wife drives an Audi A6, and its very nice.

My criticism of the car as pictured, is that it looks like HELL. Oh sure, its fast and sweet and all that, but why did they have to gussie it up like a riced out Tiburon? Yuk! :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

UniqueTII 10-04-2002 01:51 PM

It's not that you're insane, it's that you have shitty taste in cars....no, that can't be true, unless your wife picked out the A6 and FC. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Seriously, I don't see anything ricey about that car, and I like my FC a whole lot, but if I could have twice the power, a smooth, quiet ride, and a molecule of reliability, I'd be a whole lot happier.

richrx 10-04-2002 02:00 PM

i think its nice, but i'd go for a fd any day. better speed, looks for the money. Although the bradbus is nice

1988RedT2 10-04-2002 02:05 PM

Okay, so maybe I was a bit harsh. I still think they could have made it a lot prettier, especially the nose.

Better speed? The Benz has almost 500 hp from it's Kompressed V8...

As for the looks, I really like it, but most people don't like my taste in cars. For example, I think the best looking sport compact right now is the RSX...gasp. lol

bigtime 10-04-2002 06:09 PM

i dont like the wheels

Rob x-7 10-04-2002 07:11 PM

Now I have read everything. ******* crack smokers I swear. I say FU if you would take a FD/FC over a SL55 AMG. See one in person, because the pics do it NO justice. Say you dont like it, but to say you would take a $15,000 car over one of the most advanced cars in the world, is just insane. Thing has more power then a viper and its a LUXARY car, push button transmission on the steering wheel, the whole bit. By the way, thats the first time I have seen those rims, they come with nicer ones. Like the rims on a FD were so good looking?

evilT2 10-04-2002 07:25 PM

ah, finally a grain of sanity.

Twin89Stangs 10-04-2002 07:38 PM

Got to agree with Rob

Sweet ass car...

Not ricey at all!

Something that can make me relax and feel completely comfortable at triple digit speeds without the car breaking a sweat? YES PLEASE!!

Rob x-7 10-04-2002 07:43 PM

When I had my detail shop, I did work for a Mercedes boutique, almost DAILY I drove a Benz of some sort, those SLs are ******* nice. Seeing one is one thing, DRIVING it is a pleasure. I can only imagine what the new ones drive like. I have seen many of the new SLs at the various marinas when Im fixing boats, they are nice, people cant help but stare at them, they are THAT nice. Pics do it no justice

evilT2 10-04-2002 07:55 PM

ive been able to drive the last two body styles of the sl cars proir to this one and i can easily say ive never ridden in a car that had such a smooth ride and handled so well for its weight. what a beautiful piece of machinery

Drive a Carrera 4, back in 1989, I drove a Turbo Carrera 4, hard to believe it was a low 13 second car, all wheel drive, smoooooooth. Dump the clutch whenever you want, no tire spin, no squatting, it just goes.

90_GTU_jeremy 10-04-2002 08:57 PM

that car is sweet... although any car for 120 g's should be that sweet right? your almost in ferrari territory or porshe turbo with awd

dysthymia 10-04-2002 10:28 PM

The new SL is a beautiful car. The SL55 AMG is an absolute rocket by all accounts. Sign me up in a few years when I have a butt-load of cash.

For sure those SL 's are tight, those are my favorite Mercs. I got a poster of one on my wall. I think Jeff Gordon has one too..seen it on cribs.

RHDJapan7 10-21-2002 05:19 AM

Talking about cars like that, I just knew someone was going to throw some MTV Cribs reference in there!!

Good call though...you know how those guys on cribs roll:)

93 R1 11-06-2002 08:26 PM

I work for Mercedes and drive these goddamn over-engineered pieces of **** daily. The SL55 is ******* insane. It will break the wheels loose at any speed below 100 mph. I KNOW.

The new SL series(230) has electronic brakes...thats right, no master cylinder and no booster. You get the brake "feel" from a spring and rubber bump stop on the back of the brake pedal. Crazy ****.

And those wheels aren't on the production cars. Maybe an option but I haven't seen them.

rxpower 11-06-2002 08:33 PM

The car is sweet and thats that. If you start to critisize it its probably just jelousy and envy talking.

Its ok I understand I would probably do the same thing if i was driving something like a

88 seven........oh wait never mind that last part. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

No. Honestly they are overengineered. If you buy one(any new mercedes product) I can guarantee that within 1 year of ownershipor 15000 miles your car will be at the dealership at least 5 times, probably closer to 10.

No joke.

1988RedT2 11-07-2002 08:20 AM

Yup. Lots of high-tech gadgets to break. Just pray that the warranty covers your ass until you unload the thing. I'm sure its an awesome car--when it's not in the shop.

I think that you and 93 r1 are right but I also think that if you have that kind of money to buy a car

like the sl we are talking about you probably don't have the car for that long anyways

or you have the money to fix it.

Agreed. If you can afford to wipe your ass with 100-dollar bills, you can probably afford to drive an SL55.

I actually saw someone do something similar to that once. The guy was eating dinner and used a new crisp hundred for a napkin.

What an ass hole i felt like kicking his ass. But he had two big body guard with him.

never did find out who the fucker was. :squint:

I've heard of people using $100's to light cigars, but I've never seen it.

SSE/ASE_RX7 11-12-2002 09:45 PM

93 R1 is right, all the new luxo cars are getting too advanced for themselves. Most new 745i owners go to the dealership within a month, and they can't even get the fancy radio controls to work. The SL55 is sweet as hell, but anything techno-advanced usually also means tempermental, so I hope you enjoy the free coffee at the dealership. At least if you're in No VA you can go to HBL and check out a 911 turbo while your sll55 gets worked on :bigok:
