DAMN THEY ARE FAST! I got to drive one this past weekend for the 1st time for some longer times. The test drives do not do it justice.

FAST! we lost to a IS350 sport packaged car... we were ahead from 60 to 120 mph, but from 120 to 145 mph we were behind by 3/4 car length.

I love how the car does not lurch/buck with dipping in and out of throttle in traffic. It's mint. I do wish it was a smaller car. it feels kinda big.

It's just awesome. Too bad I'm not in the market for a new car.

AWESOME. It will rape a rx8. It will beat more than 50% off all the rx7s on this forum...

AWESOME.

amp 03-18-2007 09:29 PM

friend runs a 13.8 at the quarter with his sport.. bone stock

imagine what it would be like if the car shed 400lbs.. its too heavy

if the choices remains the same next year.. ill be replacin the 6s daily with the speed..

fc3sboy1 03-18-2007 09:57 PM

i test drove the speed6 on road atlanta at full speed. the ****** car does haul ass but i do believe that if you put an rx8 or 7 on the same track the rotas will have faster lap times by far. the rx7s and 8s corner speed is way quicker ya know. anyways i do love that speed6 myself and that car does make a great daily.

NotalesS 03-18-2007 10:15 PM

Have you guys had a chance to test drive the mspeed3? YOU MUST DO IT NOW! Then think about the 6. THe 3 is crazy fast.

drove them both, the speed 3 is a quick car but i am very unhappy with the ecu droppin boost off 1000 rmp before redline . i did a prototype 3" full exhaust on a speed 3. only netted 15hp on the dyno though. i made the dp all the way to muffler. but gettin back to the speed6, it actualy is faster then the 3 , its just heavy and you can feel it too. but look at the times the 6 beats the 3

amp 03-18-2007 11:07 PM

the speed3 is heavy for its class too imho... and its fwd

j9fd3s 03-18-2007 11:36 PM

yeah i really like that motor, but the 6 does feel heavy and big. its not bad, just be a killer engine in a smaller car

Cheers! 03-18-2007 11:54 PM

It's too bad they don't off S-plan pricing in Canada

I'd race one, in the fb even https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif

I seriously thought about it as a replacement for the WRX. What Mazda needs to do, is throw that engine in a RWD sedan or a miata.

Does your WRX have lurch/buck problems? Say you are driving in traffic jam... at 25 mph in 3rd, you have to barely keep your foot resting on the gas pedal... the moment you give it a tad more gas the car feels like it bucks like crazy as teh entire drivetrain moves on you. Same thing if you need to slow down... the car bucks again! FUC!!! I HATE THAT! My 03 Legacy GT does that all the time... it drives me nuts!

and it's so damn slow! But teh turning radius, and handling is nice. It feels nimble for a 3300 lbs car (my subaru). Until you mash the gas, that is when you realize it weighs 3300 lbs and it has no power.

Oh and the brakes are crap. I only hit 27,500 miles and already I need 4 brand new rotors, and 4 brand new pads. I had them fixed under warranty when the car only had 3000 miles on it. All four rotors warped and their genius solution was to machine the rotors to the min thickness. I argued left and right w/ the service manager and they said that is warranty procedure for warped brakes. No new rotors. Even though they have just accelerated the wear 100X faster.

GRrrr.. i hate subaru service. And their parts are expensive. It's easier finding parts for a 18 year old rx7 than it is to find parts for a 4 year old Subaru

jwteknix 03-19-2007 06:25 AM

ms3 is a wagon!!!!!! but its sounds nice so does the 6 i would go with the 6 over the 3 its ok fast its not fast fast i driven a whole bunch of them and my friend just bought one he traded in his 400 hp sti for it. it was not worthe it in my opinion

Cheers! 03-19-2007 07:20 AM

The MS6 has better build I think. The STi feels like someone took their WRX and assembled it in their garage. It doesn't have that nicely engineered packaged finished feel to it. I do like how it is smaller in size (STI).

Now i'm wondering how the Subaru Legacy 2.5GT Spec B compares to the MS6. On paper they are pretty much dead even. I think some of the UK websites did side by side comparisons and they were pretty equal. The legacy is smaller. But the ms6 is cheaper, and the parts are cheaper too!

Legacy 2.5GT Spec B is selling for 45k CDN

MS6 GT is selling for 39k CDN, base is 36K

amp 03-19-2007 07:42 AM

the 06 has been known to snap rear axles without provacation..

im always leary of pickin up the first production year... ya end up the guinea pig..

cymfc3s 03-19-2007 02:33 PM

I agree with you on all of these points. The brakes are major crap. I think I am on my 3rd set of brake rotors. The service is terrible. I gave up on my local dealer, they were rude, always late, and make it seem like it was an honor that they were working on your car. I now drive over 100 miles to Pheonix for major services.

Overall, i think im VERY lucky. The car has nearly 90k on it, and no major problems. As far as the bucking problems, mine can buck slightly on really hot days. It seems to have gotten worse over the years. What I have found helps, is clean the air flow sensor, intake and reset the ECU. Seems to drive much smoother.

But, needless to say, my next car will NOT be a Subaru.

my mazda dealer is no better- they suck donkey dick and have become one of the reasons I probably wont buy another Mazda.

The MS6 was never meant to compete with the WRX, it was supposed to be marketed as a more upscale car, to get away from that boy racer profile the WRX has gotten.

agreed. The WRX has definetely taken on a "boy racer" stigma. I am looking at a Toyota FJ Cruiser as a new daily driver

For the class/price of car I would also consider:

Lexus IS250 RWD 6 speed. It's a bit slow though... but it's very very nice inside and is very nicely styled... But slow... soo.......

Mazdaspeed6 is the best bet!

Since we aren't 100% happy with Subaru, the spec B is out of the question...

BTW the FJ cruiser automatic gets better mileage than the manual. THe manual is full time all wheel drive, where as the auto is electronically controlled

Rob x-7 03-20-2007 08:00 PM

a IS350 is plnety fast, and not that much more money

Factor in the much better resale and dealer expierence of the Lexus and its a no brainer.

amp 03-20-2007 10:10 PM

is350 is only available in automatic.. and no awd..

above 5k to me is a substantial difference in pricing.. speed6 sport can be had for 25k..

I was offered S plan when I tested it in the summer, I said I worked at Bruce Power, and he quoted me 36k out the door.

thats got to be way below sticker, my 6 stickered at like 27k.

does it have carpet in it for that price?

do you really want to be driving basically the same car for 4-5 more years knowing the crappy resale value the 6 has? Whats your's worth right now? $5-$6k?

the auto on the 350 is actually pretty nice, has the paddle shift thinghy, shifts very fast

amp 03-21-2007 07:58 AM

im not in it for the resale... if i was id be drivin a honda... the resale for the 6s right now is double what your qoutin btw..

not ideal but its a trade off with other factors ive considered.. dont care much for status symbol with bells and whistles like the lexus.. its all subjective anyway

and to this date.. knock on wood.. havent had any issues with the 6s and shes been beaten to death in autox since purchase...

you cant judge an entire manufacturer by one model rob.. oh and as a matter of fact.. friend picked up his 06 speed for 23k..

theres was an incentive for 4500 off the msrp late in the year with some cash back if recallin correctly..

you overpaid for your 4banger 6i.. paid 22k 6banger 6s in 03 for mine..

treceb 03-21-2007 02:27 PM

2006 MAZDASPEED6 Up to $4,750 Customer Cash (1)(2) OR 0.9% APR for 36 MONTHS (1)(5)

2007 MAZDASPEED6 $1,000 MAC Customer Cash(1)(3) OR

1.8% APR for 36 MONTHS(1)(6)

Rob x-7 03-21-2007 08:12 PM

I didnt PAY 27k, im saying that was the sticker.

I offered the resale arguement because you said the 350 is 5k more, it will be worth much more at the end of 4-5 years then a mazda, so in the long run your money goes further.

I CONSTANTLY see 05 6s going for 14-15k, I see 2003 models going for 9-11k, yours has a lot of miles on it, no leather, no nav, etc..

My car has every option besides the $1400 6cyl option and the nav. and I bet I would never see 10k for it, it only has 25k miles on it and not a scratch, dent, and never had body work on it.

2003 Lexus IS300s are selling for 18k-22k, this is on a car that stickered for $30k

I stand corrected. I could've sworn they did... I must be day dreaming.

Rob... comeon! you can't be counting every last penny. The IS250 here is 36K MSRP start. Which is base. If you want the "Sport" package add 10k to it. So 46K. That is easily 10K more than the MS6 GT w/ leather and sunroof. Plus if we were all financially sensible we wouldn't be trying to keep 18 year old cars on the road and modding them to hell and back.

Rob x-7 03-21-2007 09:55 PM

common man- cant compare a hobby car to a daily, and cant compare a loaded IS to a stripped down 6

Lexus IS: Starting at $30,255 - $35,705

mazdaspeed 6- starting at $28,590, put leather seats and heated mirrors and your at $30,620
