Its for my GF. She loves my car and wants something turbo, but not wicked fast. She wants a 96-99 GST or GSX. Anybody know anything bad about them, or anything I should look for? I've heard about the crankwalk thing but other then that they seem pretty good.

Any opinions?

EAT **** AND DIE YOU PISTON LOVER!!!

haha Actually I heard the suspension on the mitsus is shitty, and I know it is cuz my bro had one, but GSX is nice.. AWD abd Turbo..

spiney360 05-25-2003 01:18 AM

the name starts with M ???? wait a second!!

cymfc3s 05-26-2003 06:17 PM

check out www.turbo4wd.com

thats a friends site. The motor is good, but the drivetrain cannot handle abuse if you plan to drag race it.

93 R1 05-26-2003 06:45 PM

Nah no drag racing. Its for my GF. Just a BOV and exhaust for her

TYSON 05-26-2003 06:51 PM

Get a new timing belt as soon as you buy it. Plus the crankwalk as you already know.

Do not let her see THIS, or you will soon have a very thin wallet.

93 R1 05-26-2003 07:04 PM

Thats ******* funny. They should really make one of those https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Yeah Magnus has some sick **** up there https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif

GarageBoy 05-26-2003 07:53 PM

haha!

djgiantrobot 05-27-2003 01:21 PM

just be careful cuz the engine in the 2g can go up out of nowhere, as well as the tranny. most of my friends have dsms and anyone that has a fast 2g has a 1g engine in it, i don't know anyone with a 2g that hasn't crank walked. If you want to avoid all these problems you'll need to get a 99 or at the very least a 98. I haven't heard of any 99s crankwalking and very few 98s.

93 R1 05-27-2003 01:38 PM

Yeah most of the ones for sale are 98's. Thats probably what she'll end up with.

Dramon_Killer 05-27-2003 02:07 PM

Those cars have more problems than any car should ever. But, if you wanna go fast for cheap they're your best option.

Remove the silencer, exhaust, boost controller, and upgrade to a 16g turbo, you have a pretty fast car with AWD for very cheap.

turkhunter 06-12-2003 10:26 AM

LOL, wow, the people over at dsmtalk.com were saying the same tings about rx7s....

I would say that unles she really needs awd(snow, mud) Go with gs-t since it will have less chances of going out on you, plus it costs more for new clutches because you have to remove the exshuast then un mount the engine and support it on blocks, then blah blah blah. I have(soon to be had) an awd, its nice, but I am always afraid that when I launch hard something is going to break. Other than that, they can be made to be peppy little cars for very little, all sorts of free and diy mods, us dsm guys are penny pinchers:) Oh and when I say lauch hard I mean reving up to about 6-6,500 rpm and leting the clutch out, BAM all hell breaks lose... ill miss that, but not the worries that come with it, you cant really beef that trans up to much...

Thanks for the reply

Get her an RS model If you get her the GSX you'll be sorry because she might pass your car soon j/k https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png . Seriously for performance wise get her a GSX. They are pretty decent cars the stock engine will hold up to 450+HP anything higher your pretty much asking for trouble. Besides an AWD car doesn't need that much HP to go fast in the 1/4 mile but in the highway runs some AWD are slow. They sell turbo kits also stage I 300+HP stageII 400+HP. It includes everything injectors, turbo timers, blow off valves etc..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

I know a lot about DSMs. My friend that got me into Rx7s owns a 1G Talon Tsi. If you have any specific questions post 'em for me. Anything else can be found at dsmtalk.com . If there are any super specific questions PM IJSaul at dsmtalk.com . He knows everything about dsms.

Like everyone else has said - the 2gs are nice, but the crankwalk is a big issue. This could be the biggest recall in import car history if it ever happens. The case studies are slowly building and the case grows stronger every day for a recall.

The 1gens are much beefier internally, but not as asthetically pleasing.

Question away.. I know a lot about 'em.

RotorRocket 06-27-2003 03:12 PM

If your going to buy a turbo for the car go with Haun Racecraft, they got the most hp gains, brother has GSX with the Huan stage 5 setup!

MazdaEnthused 07-02-2003 09:35 PM

i thought thosegsx's were pretty rare cause i was just thinking about the talons

rotary>piston 07-06-2003 11:12 PM

excuse my ignorance: what is crankwalk?

MazdaEnthused 07-11-2003 03:12 PM

good question never heard of crank walk... be nice to ad to my vocabulary

kkw4p 07-13-2003 08:26 AM

It's a problem pretty specific to the 2nd gen Eclipses. It may happen in other cars, but not as wide spread as in these DSMs.

Here's a cool page on it:
