So my wife wanted a new toy, and a thrifty gas-sipper to drive to work once in a while, so we found a nice 1999 DOHC Dodge Neon Sport (2-door coupe) for $1300. Since the car's history was something of a mystery as far as maintenance, I decided to do the whole timing belt/water pump thing. Dammit! Could they have put the nose of that engine any closer to the passenger side strut tower? A/C and power steering hoses don't make it any easier. And why the hell did they bury the water pump behind the rear timing belt cover anyway? Had to pull the damn camshaft sprockets to get the damn thing off! And the back one was a bear! I used to have a 1998 Eagle Talon (before I got my RX7) and they have the same engine (well, block - heads are a bit different) as the neons & I did a timing belt on it & what a pain in the ass! I fully understand where you were going with this!!

Well, the timing belt is done, and the car runs fine, but it wants to stall whenever I lift the throttle. Also, it's a bit rough on start-up. First time I started it, it scared the **** out of me because I figured I got the belt on wrong. Checked everything twice and it's fine. I guess I messed something else up in the process. I might get a look at it before the weekend, but probably not.
