removed some restrictive airbox parts off the daily mazda6.. added k&n...

she sounds like she has some growl now.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png

rowtareh 12-09-2005 07:04 PM

we should make this a sticky for our daily drivers!!!

stock air boxes are so restrictive. i added a CAI and TB spacer to my Jeep and it improved lb ft, hp, throttle response. it was well worth 75 bucks. which was a huge steal considering the TB spacer is about 60 bucks by itself.

bum dyno says an increase in one to two ponies..

yep its that sensitive..

Airboxes are restrictive for a reason. Granted you'll get 1 or 2 hp up top with it gone, but you'll probably lose at least that elsewhere in the range. Mazda put good money into designing the intake, don't be so quick to assume you can do better with a $75 filter.

Makes sense, but in all honesty, how much does it matter?

inanimate_object 12-10-2005 11:13 AM

Not a whole lot really, I'm actually a hypocrite because I have a sock filter on mine - but it's all that will fit under the bonnet.

reasons are gonna vary from car to car..

you cant make such a general statement unless you know the factory tuning for this specific car..

and what the reasons are for the restriction..

k&n ran me a whoppin 35 buckaroos that will pay for itself in the recycling aspect alone...

removed the tray and resonator located inside the box that impeded airflow..

inanimate_object 12-10-2005 05:19 PM

It's a little like exhaust tuning, most if not all manufacturers will aim for an even powerband rather than all out top-end power i.e. an engine that is more driveable. That's the cause of the restriction, although that doesn't necessarily mean restricting your intake will give you more torque.

A lot of the time it's just restricted cos it's quieter ...

Yeah, I often read about that in motor trend. I was surprised that I could easily hear the stock intake of my buddy's Mazda 3 hatch.

I'm ordering up the intake and TB spacer for my jeep..I know that'll be leaps and bounds over the stock system which was "tuned" by the factory over 20 years ago...somehow I think i can improve upon that one...

amp 03-12-2006 06:08 PM

installed springs on the six..

shes now .5lb lighter on all corners with a higher rate and slightly over an inch lower..

TYSON 03-12-2006 07:26 PM

amp 03-25-2006 09:44 PM

threw on the set.. unfortunately misjudged the offset.. she now needs some good ol fender rollin in the rear..

hopefully dont tear into her too much for tomorrows autox.. gonna see if a pipe can remedy this issue temporarily..

will get it done professionally at a later date..

KingFD 03-26-2006 05:27 AM
