There is a lot of talk going on the Eclipse Forums about cutting the front bumper support. Apparently there are a few cars that have to do this in order to fit a front mount.

I'm just trying to gather as much info as I can about it, because some people seem to think it's vital and others just say that cutting the support has no effect on handling and that it's only a 5mph federally mandated bumper.

So, in order to fit a front mount, do you guys have to do any sort of cutting or whatever if you intend to keep the stock front fascia? Or is it impossible to fit a front mount?

After thinking about it, it doesn't seem like it would have any effect on handling because of where it's at, I mean, it's like at the very front of the car. Then again, I know nothing about this sort of thing.

Someone shed some light. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Oh, the kit in questions looks pretty schweet. Twin Garrett ball-bearing GT25/28s. The company claims that at 5.5psi 300whp is achieved. This is a tremendous gain over stock, considering that a GT 5spd dynoes somewhere around 180. They are configured in parallel (I think?), they independantly connect to the IC.

Yeah but my point is this happens in multiple cars, and I was wanting advice as to if this is something that can be detrimental to handling, that's all.

different kits mean different installations. i have a apexi fmic..no cutting of the bumper, but minor cutting of a frame brace. my friend has a v mount, minor cutting of a crossmember brace. other friend has a greddy fmic..lots of cutting. i think you should post your question as to a specific intercooler for your car on a eclipse board. those guys have the intercoolers for your car on their cars and will know far more about the subject than us. these kits are made for specific cars so i think its best to ask guys who actually have the cars

Well, that's the thing...there are so many differences of opinion on the Eclipse boards, I figured I would ask others who might have had to do the same thing to their car, since it happens for more types of cars than just 3G Eclipses.

I know the insurance company probably won't be happy if I do this, but are there any other drawbacks?

I just wanted some feedback from people who are a lot more experienced with cars (you guys) than the guys on the Eclipse Forums...

greddy, hks minor cuts. blitz, apex no cuts. i dont think there are any cuts on the greddy eclipse kit. both pipes are on the passenger side with the turbo, but not sure if the rebar needs to be trimmed.

hes saying what does it effect...not what applications needs it.

If i wanted to cut my front bumper supports for a FMIC, what would the ill effects be?

that may be a better worded question. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Exactly. And I have a 3G Eclipse, not a 2G, which is what I think potatochobit was referring to.
