I have been looking to get into a Regal for a while now, more specifically the 1986 Grand National Regal, and I stumbeled across this '87 GNX Regal to which I had never heard of.
Autotrader link The link is to the car in question, Is this really a production car from Buick, or did someone get creative? |
I like them personally. They look like crap, but really really quick and easily modded. I guess the only thing id look for is make sure the body is decent and doesnt have any rust.

GNX is very real, they only made 549 of them
most grand nationals suffer from very bad paint, to the point they need to be stripped down to bare metal to repaint. |

I have a line on two locally, both have had paint work done in the way of full restorations, and one that was stolen and recovered up near Seattle. The Gnx, tempting as it may be, is way to much money. I can get a hell of a lot more car than that for $75,000, assuming I wanted to spend that much. |
that car in question should be at Barrett-Jackson, not on auto-trader.

Exactly, I pondered buying the car and taking it this year, however Barrett-Jackson has oversold the show this year and no more auction numbers are available. The other thing about it is everything goes no reserve, rolling anything across that auction block is just a roll of the dice, the losses are just as big as the wins. |
A car that sells at Barret-Jackson for $75000 would be lucky to get $55000 on the street, they get some crazy prices there that you can only recoup at that auction- 95% of the time anyhow

I got to Barrett Jackson every year. Its hit or miss, really. It all depends on what the buyers want and what are the hot cars to buy that year. Lately its been all muscle cars and hot rods. European sports car, ferraris, etc don't go for big bucks there. I saw this awesome alfa zagato, i would have loved to bid on it, it ended up selling for 17k (which was pretty cheap for how nice the car was.)

The reason the paint was so shitty was actually based off of the deoderant the techs wore in the paint booth beleive it or not. GM rememdied the problem, however, they still had issues up until 1995 with early paint deterioration.
