So last night I got the chance to photograph my good friend's 2000 M5 DINAN S2. It was about midnight before the indigenous population was sparse enough to really get some good shots, then it was about 3am before we were done and I was able to run to Subway for dinner and head home, but damn it was worth it. Here are the best shots with a bit of editing just to make them pop a bit more. Can you believe that he wants to sell this car to buy a Merc CL55? Some people's children. What the hell could he be thinking? Makes me want to just give up on this species. Best car ever vs. just another Mercedes. Hmm, tough call. Anyway, WWYD?

how much does he want for it? my friends dad was looking for m5's.
|
High 30s, I believe.
60k miles, close to perfect condition, as you can see from the pics..... |
I like those more than the new ones, but I have heard so many horror stories about Dinan from my friends (who drive an M3 and a 325i) about how bad and overpriced Dinan is.
|
If Satan had a car, it would be an E39 M5. Straight-up evil car. I can't imagine trading that for an everyone-has-one Benz.

I'm probably a little biased, but that is a sweet car. I'd trade mine in for it anyday.
|
I'll give you the M5 is a bad ass car. But a CL55 is not an everyone-has-one Benz. I'm sure the M5 has the edge performance wise, but I sure wouldn't mind a CL55 to drive around in.

If the CL is an '03 or newer then its 500hp/520tq. Unless the M5 has some crazy power then the CL will walk it
|
Oh, in Vegas it is. That's right I live in Colorado Springs. I'm not siding with either car. They are both awesome, for $100k+ each they should be. Its all about what you want. Like we say at the dealership "There's an ass for every seat." |

This guy is the original owner of this car and he got it DINANed nearly as soon as he bought it six years ago. So far, he's had 0 problems with his DINAN parts. I hear that many people do, but I never actually personally see one of these car with so many problems, so I don't know. a friend of mine bought the supercharger kit for his 95 540is. the bracket and ecu tuning were the onlt things that were dianan made, supercharger was just a paxton, or vortech or whatever, all the hardware was just generic harware store stuff. the kit cost 9k in parts (we put it on) and after the install with 400flywheel hp it still got pulled on by a stockish fd. we had no trouble at all with the kit though |

itd look much better imho with the mouldings painted to match...
|
I thought the same thing with mine. I PhotoShopped the white one like that. Looked horrendous. Truly terrifying. I don't know why either, you would think it would make it look much more executive, but no.. Not even almost.....

From the factory, they're both rated at 4.7 0-60, and this particular M5 is modded to have 70 more HP than factory. You forget, Mercedes cars weigh a hell of a lot, so all that extra power is just going to make up for extra weight. No doubt this M5 will be the one walking the CL55. Even the CL65 would have a hard time keeping up up the straights, and when a corner shows up, forget about it. The BMW's gone... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif Go and drive either the 55 or a 65. Not a chance the old M5 will hang. They are rated 394hp/368tq. Thats 100hp/160tq less then the 55. You may catch up in the corner but the 55 will pull away in the straights easy. I'm not even going to bother with the 65. There isn't anything stock <$150k besides a new z06 that can hang with a 65. They are ******* beasts. Trust me, I've driven alot of cars, I do it for a living. The old M5 is no match...Dinan or not. But it is a damn nice car https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif |

I'm glad you've driven a lot of cars, but I've driven lots of cars too, including this particular M5 and raced a CL55 and beat him soundly in a straight line, and a CL65 only pulled about half a car on me in this M5, and that was before all of the DINAN engine mods were totally done. |
o.k.

so what job do you have that allows you to drive cars for a living? I want that job lol... I'm a master certified Mercedes tech. I run the used car department, so I personally drive or ride in everything that comes through the dealership. BMW, Porsche, etc... |
The CL65 is the TT V12 with ungodly torque correct?
The parking deck for my apt is shared with a restaurant that valet's in the lower two levels...there was a '65 there the other day...there's no way in hell I would valet that car! "Here, let me pay you and I'll park it." 612hp/737tq if auto sites are correct...how do you keep that on the pavement? On an unrelated note, I will say this, if I was given the opportunity of owning an M5 or an E55, I would have to side with the E55... |
Some people just have to have 3 pedals and a shifter.....I'm one of those guys. No way I'd give up an E39 M5(let alone Dinan modded), for a porky (but straightline fast) boring super luxo barge.

Sounds about right. They do weigh 4000lbs remember. 10 lbs per hp in the BMW vs probably the same or slightly better in a slighly more aerodynamic "stockish" FD. But this is an M5, not a 540i. There are many more differences than you might think. A 540i with 400hp still won't even come close to an M6 with 400hp around a track. yeah a stock 2000m5 felt much faster than the dianan 540is. |
