Last year I was leaving one of our job sites and discovered a silver 1979 RX-7 straight body sitting in one of the driveways of a house that we recently did the electrical work in. So checked the car out, leaving a note to invite the person to an INWR club meeting.
So a year passes and I get this strange call from a guy that said I left a note on his car about a year ago. He wanted to know if I knew anyone that was willing to buy his car cause his wife wanted it gone. He proceeded to tell me that he’s owed the car for the past 15 yrs, and garaged the whole time. The car was built by Skip (one of the best engine builders around), and has a 13b /Weber setup with a mild street port. The tires are in great shape, rims are Rikens mesh wheels with about a 2 ½ in lip. I didn’t want to let this guy know exactly how much I knew about rotary’s, so I just kind of played it off and said tell me about the car. He says he wanted $500 for the whole car, but he hasn’t been able to get the car started for the last 3 years, though it ran great before. So I figured jump on, it for just the Weber setup and mesh wheels. If anything I could part it out and get my money back if the motor was bad. So we grabbed the trailer, loaded it up brought it home (pouring down rain, thunder storms). I’m thinking this has to be a good sign lol. We wait for a half hour or so for the storm to end, then put a nice fresh battery in it, drained out all the old fuel, replaced the spark plugs, replaced distributor cap, and the rotor, new wires, and low and behold a little primer down the carbs and vroom she fired right up. Motor sounds really healthy, went and did some one-tire fire burnouts. Last time the car was licensed was in 1994. Damn if that guy only knew what he just gave up. Anyway, here’s a couple pics and will get a vid out. What a steal. http://s45.photobucket.com/albums/f58/MFRX...r%2079%20mazda/ |

Thank you,
I feel kinda bad.....THO... I have been going through this car the last few days. And from what I see, any First gen Lover. (like me) Would have payed well over a $1000.00 for this car. Everything on this car is new. The motor has about 4000 miles, street ported ,center force clutch lightend flywheel, header 3 inch exhaust. shocks springs, wheels are good and the tires are new. The breaks need some work. And the clutch need bleed. Oh and I changed all the fliuds. It's a very nice runing car. the reason i feel bad is .......I would have payed $ 500.00 for just the 15 inch wheels and tires..............not a nick in them.............muhahahahaaaaaaaa |
damn it. I am so jealous! I went out car searching with a friend today and got a ride in my old FC. Man I miss the rotary sound and feel. We went and test drove a s13 that a friend was interested in and I got to say those cars are a lot of fun also and they got more room inside to boot!
I can't believe the deal you got. I thought my $300 turbo volvo was a sweet deal, I have been outdone LOL! |
did we ever find out about those housings? oh, and my pulleys? that car does run nice though!
|
Those '74-'75 rotor housings have a cool look to them. Nice find!
