After talking with everyone who made the Sports Car Formal it's clear that we've been traveling a bit far for our drives, especially given the weather. So for January I think we should mix it up a bit. I propose we travel the most nut ball route from one end of Lake Washington to the other.

Snow Flake Special

I'd like some help figuring out which roads to include. I've several in mind, but not quite enough to make the whole rout interesting. If you have any ideas, please let me know. Even if they're a bit out of th way. General boundaries are the area surrounded by I-5 and I-405. We can fudge a bit though, if you know of REALLY good one just outside the lines. I've never been fond of coloring inside the lines any how.

kristopher_d 12-18-2006 08:59 PM

Well, we're up to 12 cars so far. Who else is going to join the fun?

SPEEDRATED 12-27-2006 09:25 PM

Count me in! Have any of you guy's/gal's ben on West mercer drive? ( Mercer island ) It's a twisty S.O.B!! And i mean twissssssty!!!!!!

There is also "rolercoaster hill" in sumerset. ( 2-3 miles east of 405, off I-90 ) In highschool we had so much fun there the cops would close it down friday and saterday night! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.gif

kristopher_d 12-28-2006 09:46 PM

I'm not familiar with "Roller Coaster Hill." You wouldn't happen to know the real street name, would you. I've got a pretty good route, but may be able to get another road in there.

SPEEDRATED 12-29-2006 04:39 PM

I will look it up on a map and post back.

SPEEDRATED 12-29-2006 05:48 PM

Ok here it is, I-90 east to lake mont blvd ( same exit as west lake samamish drive ) mile post 13? east on se newport way (towards issiquah ), right on se 54th

54th will turn into se 60th. and thats it. we should be adle to take lake mont blvd down the hill back to I-90? the road wasent there 14 years ago ( yes i am old ), but i do know that one is there now just not shure about the conection with se 60th and I-90. I would check it out but i live about 85 miles from there now!!

P.S sorry for my lack of spelling skills!!!!

If you have any questions pm me and i will give you my number.

kristopher_d 12-30-2006 12:23 AM

All right, after much exploring followed by map studying to get the road names right, the route is finally done. It's a complex one, so study up.

http://www.the-winding-road.com/grou...nw20070128.php

And if that's not exciting enough, we now have more than 30 cars registered for this drive. We'll have to figure something out to prevent cars getting separated from the group, and to avoid drawing too much attention.

kristopher_d 12-30-2006 12:26 AM

SPEED_RATED - I'll check out that road this weekend. I'm sure we'll be able to cover it in a future run. The route that connects the most fun roads takes us up the other side of the lake this time, but we'll definitely be doing another central area drive later in 2007.

Thanks. This is what I do. Dream up crazy ways of getting around, 'cause freeways are boring and love to drive.

kettlman 12-31-2006 12:43 PM

well, what day and what time is this happening?

jenkin 01-01-2007 03:07 AM

The Meeting

10:00 Sunday, 28 January 2007

Fort Dent Park, Tukwilla, WA

Given the number of vehicles expected to participate, we'll be leaving and rolling in groups, with at least one regrouping spot along the way.

Count me in.

RotarBeast 01-06-2007 07:22 PM

are theyre any eta's for when u guys hit up the eastside? i live in redmond, and could meet up for a bit.

RotarBeast 01-06-2007 07:23 PM

i could probably meet u guys on the waterfront. just need a time.

kristopher_d 01-07-2007 02:32 PM

I'll know better next weekend, but I'm guessing the first group should roll down Lk Wa Blvd between noon and 12:30. We'll be rolling in 4 groups at 5 minute intervals, but by the time we get there we could all be bunched up again.

kristopher_d 01-18-2007 09:12 PM

The maps are done. Do to the recent weather, I had to do them completely online, so the cool feature I was hoping to introduce will have to wait for next month. The links to the map PDF's are at the top of the directions on this page.

kristopher_d 01-22-2007 09:46 PM

It's hard to say. Hopefully between 2 and 3 o'clock. That's an hour for the first half, an hour for lunch, and an hour for the second half, plus wiggle room. The list of participants just keeps growing, which means there may be some difficulty getting everyone off and running in a timely manner. If you PM your phone # to me, I can give you call when we get near by.

Let's make this one go down in history!!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683827.gif

Hyper4mance2k 01-26-2007 11:55 PM

How about this for an excuse my car is sitting with a broken driveline. FAWK!!!

herz3mc 01-27-2007 12:18 AM

Well, I'll be there. I'm getting a little tired of dashpoint/509 for twisty fun.

Went to register to autocross on MOnday and the event was already full so this will be a fun alternative. Looks like a good forecast too. See you all Sunday.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. There are also some Oregonians coming up for it, so gas money falls into the "lame excuse" category too. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.gif

Yeah agreed... gas is a lame excuse... it is just a few beers at the bar... that is the way I see it. And since I do not go to the bar I'm set! How often are these held? I was sincere, I would like to make it... there is no reason there should be such a seperation between the rx7 and rx8 guys...

tandolla 01-28-2007 01:38 PM

when you have no job im pretty sure it is a good excuse..

herz3mc 01-28-2007 08:00 PM

Great Drive - Props to krisotpher_d for putting it all together. Had a great time on some of those twisties. It was good to get both cars out and let them stretch their legs a little bit.

Wish there would have been a few more sevens there but all in all it was a pretty good turnout. Lots of Rx-8s, a new Z06, Evo8 and 9, Lexus SC 300 and the Mcoupe were there too.

I"ll definately make it out for more of these.

woundup7 01-28-2007 09:03 PM

Yup, thanks to Christopher D had a great time, damm there were a lot of rx8's.

kristopher_d 01-28-2007 11:11 PM

I'm glad you folks enjoyed it. We do it every month, though usually in a more rural setting, allowing us to be much more spirited in our driving habits.

kristopher_d 01-29-2007 07:42 PM

Thanks again, to everyone who made it. I hope to see more of you next month. The group photo is here http://www.the-winding-road.com/modules/my...photo.php?lid=1 Remember, we're re-running our November route since the rain kept most folks home. It's already up a the-winding-road, and I'll get a thread going tonight.
