I would go, but autocrossing that day. Take lots of pics and try to post some.

rmriggin 05-28-2006 12:01 AM

I should be able to make it... all depends if I can pull myself out of bed that early if I drink tonight LOL!

z-beater 05-28-2006 10:14 AM

Hey teardown is no big deal. It is the buildup that you want to see. We will be doing that on another weekend. I don't know how much tearing I will be able to do because for some reason I can barely see out of my left eye. Feels like someone jabbed it with a pencil https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png I might have to contract someone else that can actually see.

If you want to come please let me know. Robert I got a few beers that you can have so that that hangover will go away.

VROOOOOMZOOM 05-28-2006 11:02 AM

Tempting.. but i had enough of looking at engines.. :P

Jk im heading up to bellingham to see grandmother and grandfather.! have a good weekend all! be safe!!

hornbm 05-28-2006 11:37 AM

HA HA HAAA You've got pinkeye!!! Just don't touch it! Shitty thing is that there is nothing they can do for it. If it's viral they can give you a cream o out on your eye and make it better, but if it's viral the cream will make it worse. You've got to wat it out. LOL! When I was in Basic training about 50% of the males got it casue of te scumbags rubbing their eyes then touching everything.

rmriggin 05-28-2006 07:28 PM

Engine teardown went smoothly. All parts looked to completely fine and within tolerances..... except the center iron. The coolant jackets on each side of the center plate are missing a chunk. So looks like Z will be needing a turbo center plate along with a rebuild kit and maybe apex seals if he wants to get it put back together.

kettlman 05-28-2006 10:18 PM

yeah. it went well. came apart too easy. ain't used to that. inside looked real clean also. thinkin it was rebuilt at one time. just wasn't paid too close attention to the center housing. so hopefully he can get one from a cosmo, or a 3rd gen this week so we can put it ack together. the motor was so clean that the oil ring seals were still green.

woundup7 05-28-2006 11:30 PM

What about the housing, how they look.?

kettlman 05-29-2006 12:22 AM

everything else looks just about new.

KompressorLOgic 05-29-2006 03:44 AM

z you better replace your apex seals or else!! lol

z-beater 05-29-2006 09:15 AM

HAHAH, yeah went really smooth. I was shocked how easy it came apart. As I suspected there was a water problem and it also looks to have been rebuilt.

There was a crack in the center housing were the water runs through the jacket.

I do not know how extensive I am going to go with this rebuild. There will be NO porting that is going to happen that is why I got such a large turbo. I might get some 2 piece seals but I also want to check the clearance on the ones that I have now. I might just re-use those depending. I would also like to get a cosmo center plate because it had a larger port. This is the downfall of the REW. So if anyone knows or one let me know https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

KompressorLOgic 05-29-2006 01:26 PM

DONT REUSE APEX SEALS!!! you spent to much money and time doing your setup "right" to cut a corner at the last minute.... those used ones might be crappy brand or you never know what kind of abuse the old dirver might of put on them

rmriggin 05-29-2006 01:32 PM

I am pretty sure that no aftermarket companies made a 3 piece seal so it would be safe to say that he has mazda seals. I would agree that it would be wise to go with a 2 piece seal. It is a matter of time and money, and what apex seals to go with.

hornbm 05-29-2006 03:37 PM

well you cant get 3 piece seals anymore, so your down to one pice or two pice, and I wouldnt reccomend the one piece. I thought you might have cracked the coolant seal groove, z. Just get a new cast iron, a rebuild kit and apex seals, and slap her back together

jenkin 05-29-2006 07:31 PM

hey, made a run to bothell and picked up this motor

http://seattle.craigslist.org/pts/165599064.html

can anybody tell whether it is an s4 or s5? there wasnt a omp on the front cover, so i am sol. will donate center iron to the project if it will work... just need to know where to drop it off for tear down. I think its an s5 cause the flywheel isnt the same as my s4 tII's

rmriggin 06-03-2006 02:22 AM

you snatched that motor right before I offered to paypal the guy for it. For $50 for a TII engine I figure it had to have at least $50 worth of good parts in it still. Good snag!

Hyper4mance2k 06-03-2006 03:29 AM

FAWK $50 I would've boughten it for my next PJ... DAMN! I'm the master of ghetto fab!

KompressorLOgic 06-03-2006 02:35 PM

where some pics of your bad iron??

z-beater 06-04-2006 02:02 AM

**** Son!!!! Ok, I will try and snap some tomorrow evening when I get a second.

KompressorLOgic 06-04-2006 09:54 PM

THIS THREAD IS USELESS WITH OUT PICS LOL!!!!

z-beater 06-05-2006 10:37 AM

Ok, got in late last night but managed to snap some pictures. I meant to bring my camera into work so that I could upload them. I will try and get them up tonight but by the time that I am finished with all the stuff that I have to do it will probably be pretty late.

Z

S-5 have a knock sensor right above the spark plugs, also have a 10 blade fan, S-4 only have 8 blades, The waste gate rod also has a 30 degree bend in it, S-4 have a straight rod on the waste gate. Hope that helps.

z-beater 06-06-2006 09:19 PM

Just a promised here is a picture of the broken part https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

rmriggin 06-06-2006 10:34 PM

woundup7 06-06-2006 11:11 PM

HAHAHA, that was the same thing that someone else said at the dismantle party.

How much of a drop did you get Chris? I think that you will be surprised once you get that installed. I might be looking for some tips and tricks later down the road when I get suspension for my car.

Well Matt, you are right there are a lot of blown rew's but usually they get rebuilt. I am having one hell of a time finding a good used one. I have a few more places to try.
