i dont think that a car that has been sitting over a year should do pulls without being broken in. i volunteer to drive it b and f across chinook till it is broken (in).

jenkin 06-18-2007 01:06 AM

can i bring the fd? will the dyno work on an automatic?

Yup, just hold it in third or drive, not overdrive

yes the dyno will work on a automatic because i did my 88 gxl about a year ago at the last time we did this at the same place. it worked pretty good also.

rmriggin 06-20-2007 09:03 PM

I thought the FD had a blown engine (or at least a poorly running one).

would be cool if Z could make it (maybe he can?). I doubt I will make this but it would be nice to see what type of numbers my $300 special volvo puts down.

yeah, the fd has a toasted engine in the bay, and a rebuilt street ported 13 brew on the stand.... i just cant get them swapped because i keep getting to do neat projects like paint the garage, revamp the underground sprinklers, rebuild the door on the back of the rental mobile home (oops, manufactured housing), and go to family bd parties in cda when i would rather be engine swapping. i even sort of planned to do an all weekender to get this done but got waylaid by bday party and ripping furniture out of the house so chem dry can clean carpets....

i may finally have to break down and pay somebody to do the work. i think it would cost me more to get the motor swapped than you paid for the turbo brick!!! where is the justice in that? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

oh, back on topic. i want to have the motor in in time to get to the dyno.... it isn't really a rebuild per se as the motor that i bought that was supposed to have a bad seal only had a carbon locked apex seal.... finally one goes my way! anyway, i shouldn't have to do 4K of break in, wouldn't 1K be allright before tossing it on the dyno?

rmriggin 06-22-2007 11:16 PM

run high octane (duh) and put some mmo in the tank for good measure, should be fine I would imagine.

woundup7 06-23-2007 09:30 AM

Hey John you may want to do the water in the intake steam cleaning thing as well. If its got lots of carbon that will definately help.

kettlman 07-10-2007 01:58 AM

damn this was on the 2nd page

neil 07-12-2007 04:38 PM

dang! The Club Trials are the same day in Bremerton and I NEED to do a dyno with accurate A/F...

that'll teach me to miss Izzy's and help vote on dates.... Damn! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif Next time or I'll just have to arrange a time when I can. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif

Next time we do one with bimmer club I'll let you know - they are up in carb connection in kirkland and it's $75. We need to do one there as well to see our "real/true" growth as our past two were there so we have a good "baseline"

Looks like i can't get a break. The Volvo needs tabs on top of the gas to get out there and the price for dyno. I really wanted to go just to watch and hang out but I will not be able to. Lack of funds + lack of babysitter = Volvo FTL. Life has been busy and haven't had time or money for fun lately.

Someone please post pics and vids.

Sorry guys.

Have fun!

Kill No Cone 07-21-2007 05:15 PM

Ok, that was fun!

Chris and Michelle's car dominated the day and even spanked the supercharged BMW M3 (that is 3 liters right?). It was great to get a baseline and fun to se all the folks.

Looking forward to the next event.

so post some pics and numbers? Thought of you all between runs at the track.. BTW I got into 1:03.359 on my best lap. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

289.7 hp, ~255 tq. Quite happy, especially with the tune. I posted up pictures on the other forum since more of the folks who attended are on there.

Sounds like the time trials were pretty dead, only 7 cars? Will SCCA continue their racing program here? Looks like a lot of folks are moving to conference.

Well, part of the problem was the Trials event wasn't talked up enough before hand and the regular drivers needed to help in recruiting, Me included. Worse most of the regular drivers didn't show. If most of the regulars showed it wouldn't have been a $$ loser. SCCA racing in general will continue fine. some folks have gone to conferance, some do both. Track time is track time! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif I plan to run a little conferance but want to support the track and club trials program as it's a low cost low risk way to get feet wet and see if it's something you want to do. Otherwise you have to rent someone else's car. For car enthusiasts and tinkerers , like me, I want to know how MY car does as well as spend my driving time in it. There will continue to be club and track trials but a stand alone day (on a Saturday) like this last one is definatly endangered... I think that is to bad.. Where else can you run a non caged car at speed and get an official time. (track days are NOT timed, tho many do try, under the table, it ain't racing.) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.gif There is a Friday PDX and Club Trials event in 2 days, but hell I can't take the time off. If any of you can, you should try it out.

How much is it to run trials and do you have to class your car or can you run "time only"? Can you you run stock seat belts? We did the PDX last year and it was okay - I really was hoping for more instruction.

I'd hate to see us lose the SCCA here - competition (between the leagues/confs) helps to keep the sport better and improving and it's always good to have lots of options. I wonder if NASA is going to make it's way up here too? Keep us posted here when events are coming into town. I'll probably be doing a lapping day with BSCC - it's pretty cheap, not timed, but my insurance likes that better https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif
