Yea, it is kinda lame in here. I'm sure an autocross is probably coming up in Everett next month. Other than that I am always down with drinking some beer. Btw, you still have that a/f guage you were looking to get rid of?

Hmmm, so that's how it's going to be, is it now Mr. moremazda? That's cool with me if you want to be acting like a fool. But don't come crying to me the next time you need some help kickstarting your heater because I won't be there. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/blackeye.gif

Rx7club.com is dying. Maybe some of their members will come over here. That is why I am here now, their server is having some issues (again). Jerk Racer, why shouldn't I run without a rear sway bar? My car will be a little tail heavy (87 base, alum. hood, no front bumper reinforcement, relocated battery) compared to stock so maybe I can deal with the understeer it might cause, especially considering my open differential. What do you think?

Jerk_Racer 02-11-2003 02:08 AM

I think you are overthinking the whole issue. Your car is still very well balanced. A percent or two of rearward biased weight won't kill the handling. A full tank and a 1/2 full tank of gas will affect the f/r weight balance too. Very few cars have a near-perfect f/r weight balance. Ever hear of Porsche 911's? They have about 60% of their weight in the back and they seem to do just fine. What affects the handling the most is the driver - believe it or not. Working on weight transfer while driving will make the largest difference. Get smooth behind the wheel.

The front/rear weight balance is not as important as the cross weight of your car. The FC comes with a cross weight of practically 50/50. That's very important to cornering ability. My car was recently corner balanced. You know what I've done with it. Almost 50/50 f/r balance. A perfect 50/50 cross weight. They didn't have to raise or lower any corners to get it right.

Use sway bars to control lateral movement. Use shocks/springs to control the fore/aft movement. Different parts do their different jobs.

Your car has a lot of wild movement. Get that car to ride flatter and the open diff won't be rearing it's ugly head as much. Get a LSD setup from a '87 or '88 T2 and that won't be an issue any longer. Get some good tires. Get your car sorted out and it'll do what you want it to.

I still have my old T2 shocks/springs sitting in my place. They have your name all over them. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png It kills me to chuck stuff like that out, but I don't feel right about charging somebody them either.

If you'd like to ride in my car at an autoX sometime, just hop in if they allow riders. My car has some beefy sway bars. The understeer happens as much as the oversteer, but understeer sucks anytime it happens. I chalk all that up to my lousy driving.
