Alright David, Rx7's all over the place. Just one more event and you to can sign up for mazdaspeed parts.

Kill No Cone 06-22-2007 08:51 AM

Glad that you will be there Dave!

Kill No Cone 07-01-2007 10:47 PM

Wow, what a great day of racing!

Fun to see so many Rx7s and we got to see Zbeater out today!

How did you do Dave?

herz3mc 07-01-2007 11:44 PM

Yeah it was lots of fun - we got four fun runs at the end too. I didn't have such a great day of racing but still a great time. Got to take the 5er on the fun runs and that made her happy, and me, she's less than a second behind the seven. THere were a few cameras there today - maybe there will be some good shots of rx-7s spinning out https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.gif

z-beater 07-02-2007 12:23 AM

If there are pictures of spinning out I think that I will be in them. Could not keep the car hooked up. JEB, to say the least I did horrible. It is all a learning curve though. Tons of fun... I am going to have to come out to the next one. When is that?

Dude, don't feel bad... in the AM I ran my street tires, hi performance all season: = med/hard compund. Tried to drive as if they were my Yokohama A048 or kuhmo 710's.. Needless to say lots of tire noise, sliding, and a few cones killed.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

I have it on incar tape... it was hillarious... LMAO thru all of it... had a great time but can see it's hard to go back to street compound after running R compounds in a competition enviroment. My all seasons are great for daily driving and even frisky mountain roads, but not for cones... Like you I count it as a learning experience... was mainly testing my new RTEK chip and trying to get used to working with it... on that note was totally cool. lots to learn but nice to have more top end. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

You are not alone - Chris and I did our fair share of impressing the crowd with ours too. Next event is a long ways off :( August 12. WWSCC is having one on the 5th of August if you want to make the trek up to everett.

It looked like everyone was spinning in the same spot just up from the turn around, was it from letting off?

Who tried just keeping in the gas to see if the rear stuck?

Ok, I know when I keep in the gas it is like 130 hp and when some of you keep in the gas it is 260 hp...

but, did you get it to stay stuck there?

Z, it is quite a learning curve, but you will learn quickly. I am told it all about seat time, but I am not sure if that is true. In my job I am on my seat all the time and it has not made me a bit faster.

See you at the next event!

JEB

z-beater 07-02-2007 09:59 PM

I think that I was too hard on the gas... I think that I was going into the corner too hot. The last run I managed to get it though. Learned a ton, and there is still a lot to learn. Can't wait until next month. It is too bad that there is not a video game that we can practice this on.

Hey JEB

Yeah I did try holding (not keeping in) the gas without any throttle jabbing. It worked twice and didn't once. Duff told me he saw the whole rear end "hop" over right before i spun out, so who knows. It may have been hitting a bad patch of pavement that was just enough to upset the car. He also nicknamed us "spinner" and "spinnette" https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

Interestingly enough I didnt spin in the 540 which was on really crappy street tires and had lots more wieght transfer, stock suspension etc. as well as much more weight which possibly helped to hold me down. The front end pushed a lot (I <3 turn-in spacers) and the brakes are hardly as good as the seven and I was wasting time with the wheels spinning a lot (more than the seven) but not any time by having the rear end come around on me. She was happy to do something besides get me to work though. I hear a rumor it's an Fstock car so I might be trying it out at one of the events when I get my new tires - it has a great index https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

I think what really needs work now is not the car or the tires or even the course, but me, seat time, seat time, seat time. Plus some GT4 on the PS2. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

z-beater 07-03-2007 05:21 PM

I have played GT4 a couple time and the racing is totally different. Do they have tighter courses with quicker turns. Everything seemed so much more "fast paced" on the auto-x track.

Kill No Cone 07-03-2007 10:00 PM

Yes, they say that autorcrossers turn 4 times more quickly (or frequently) than formula 1 racers.

Zerodrift 07-04-2007 09:57 AM

It was a great day, but I feel like something was missing. I can't figure out what it was for some reason. Anyways, seems like everyone else was doing well out there, and learning just a bit more about their cars. Hopefully next event I can push myself a bit more out there. I think I'm afraid of making my tires squeel or something, I'm just not hitting enough cones... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.gif

Hopefully next event I can convince some new Rx7 owners to attend, as well as a certain Miata... (The new tires need to be broken in some how https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR )

Yeah it is different but I really just use it to practice looking ahead. I like the rally/special condition routes. In fact, I built two cars, an Mcoupe (they didn't have the s54 so I turbo charged it to get the equivalent power of mine, oops ours) and an rx-7 - had to settle with a second gen since they don't have first gens that I put a stage two and bunch of suspension stuff and traction control off. I was hoping to get them to simulate as much as possible what I'm really driving.

If nothing else it's kind of fun and I've heard rumors that some of our local national champions have invested in some nice video game equipment and hey if it works for them...

Clayton - it'd be great to see that Miata out there. Don't worry about squealing the tires - it doesn't hurt anything. You should have heard the 540's https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

z-beater 07-04-2007 04:29 PM

I don't know how anyone cannot get addicted after one run. I am hooked. It was nice to get a little road rage out.

In GT4 there is those sections in the licesing tests where they have the coffee breaks with the cones in different configurations. I don't find that as helpful to autoX as I find the actual high speed track runs for Track trials and road race.. Then again I kill alot of cones in that area like in real life so maybe it's a better simulation than i want to admit! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blush.gif

Wow, results are in! Good job Michelle and Chris! You too Jeb!

-Jeb is leading the way for the Sports C class currently!

-Chris H. is 4th in the Sports C class!

-Chris M. is 4th, w/ Michelle in 3rd in the Street Tire class!

-I've somehow managed 1st in the Sports Prepared class!

Hopefully the rest of the season will go smoothly for all of us!

-I gotta work all the bugs my car is developing... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.gif

On a plus note: oddly enough, my car hit the big 200k mile marker on the way to the last autocross event! Autocross was the perfect way to celebrate!

I believe Forza has autocross races available. Not sure if its accurate, but worth looking into.

woundup7 07-05-2007 06:51 PM
