How is everyone? I am doing great, so close to getting out of the piston world. I live in Canada, I currently have a 2005 VW GTI (trying to get rid of) and I have found this...

1993 Efini with 54,000 mi going for $7,300, The car has no mods, RHD, only 18" wheels... So think it is a good buy?

Welcome to nopistons! Sorry I can't help with your question, but good luck in your search for a new car.

Even if it's nit running that's a steal in American dollars. Welcome to nopistons and best of luck!

Thats what I kinda thought, but it is CAD so that is actually $7,600 American

i rarely find a stock fd listed for less than $10k usd running or not. Mine had a few mods but wasn't running right and I payed 13,500 for it. I wish I'd have known what I was getting into lol. I blew two sets of twins shortly after buying so I sunk the money into having it rebuilt, ported, and swapped to single turbo. During tear down they discovered that the housings were cracked and there was no porting done at all although the previous owner said it was rebuilt and ported. learn my lesson and don't believe the seller unless you can see the modifications with your own eyes lol

Well, this whole car is completely stock. But the seller has agreed to running the car through a compression test. Mazda told me I needed to, cause I guess at 50,000mi they are reaching the end of their life span, But is that true? Cause that is not many miles at all.

thatpoorguy 05-03-2011 06:05 PM

Not even close to true if she's taken care of. Compression tests are good to find out if everything is good internally. I've had a couple NA rotaries last over 200k, it's just a matter of taking care of them. Overheating, low oil, and running a rotary lean are the fastest ways to destroy the engine. Rotories intentially burn oil to help lubricate the seals, people are bad about not checking their oil level and will run it out of oil. Overheating blows the internal seals very easily. Running lean causes detonations which are known for destroying apex seals. At only 50k, the engine should run great still. Get the compression test done, check for coolant or oil leaks, and check for broken/open vacuum lines that go the intake. A vacuum issue makes an engine run lean no matter what type

Thats good to hear then, I am so badly itching to get one... Trying to sell my car first, and I just talked this guy with this car down from $12,500 to $10,000, 41,000 miles. He tried to BS me and tell me it was 1 out of 500 RX's. But it doesn't have a Carbon cockpit, and it has a Efini steering wheel. But I don't wanna upset him so he wont sell it to me... (unless I am wrong about what I am looking at)

lol no, he's trying to tell you it's a type r i'm guessing. they had badging on the b-pillar and i think some interior badging. something to look for though, on the early fd's there was a base and r1 submodel. the only real way to tell the difference is to look at the front through the bumper. the r1 has an oil cooler on either side of the radiator behind the side intakes. the base only had one oil cooler.
