I will soon be buying a new car, prob September. I can't make up my mind on what to get but was hoping for some unbiased opinions here. Anything about the 7 put in lamens terms becuz I know little about the car. Right now the top cars onm my list are 2004 Mustang GT or Cobra, 04 Honda S2000, 04 WRX Sti, Supra, 3rd Gen RX-7, maybe a Celica. I don't know much about any of these cars except the mustang. I know nothing about imports. I drive a Jeep and spend most of my money to go offroading and all so I don't know much about cars. I want something fast, sexy, etc.

Wow, sounds like you got a lot of money to throw around!! The Supra, WRX STi, S2000, and most obviously the FD are all fast and sexy!! You can get a Cobra, and be fast, but you would be part of the herd..... Ugh..... If you do decide on an FD, prepare yourself, and learn quick about rotaries! Supras, WRXs, and S2000s are pretty reliable, but FDs are just so unique!! Your question about what anyone can tell you about FDs is too general, this thread would explode from some of the rotary genius that would get posted! But there are tons of guys out there that know so much it blows my mind. I.E. Vosko and TurboVR6 just to name 2. And if you want my opinion, go with the rotary!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

The thing is that if you get the newer cars on your list, you won't have to worry about the problems that the older cars will give you. Especially FD's. Seriously, any of the cars in your list are hot.... good luck on the choice. And Welcome.

Well, is there a lot mods than I can make on the 7? I don't know much about imports or where to find out. I know that there is a lot of things for the Stang. The main reason why I don't want to get it is becuz everybody and their brother has one now.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif To answer your questions. You can make a rotar powered car push well over 1000hp if you have the money.

But lets be realistic. With the newer cars, they won't have as many problems compared to a 3rd gen rx-7. It matters what you want? A sexy fast car like the 7 that is really unique and a serious head turner. Or you can get a boring old 'Stang?

Just choose wisely. If I could afford a 3rd gen 7, I would have it parked in my driveway instead of a 2nd gen 7.

Mods you can do on an RX-7?

Being simple:

engine: streeport( you can do a wild one or a mild one)

better apex seals

exhaust:pretty much anything you can possibly think of.

a better downpipe that is about 3" in diameter.

no cat converter!! take that fuckah outta there

i know i am missing things on exhaust.

turbo: you can go single turbo, but if you do anything to it, get it made to where it is non sequential. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Just do some shopping and do realize that a running FD that has no problems usually sells for about 14000 to 20000. And the car was made from 93-95.

Good luck

how easily modded are these cars? im leaning towards an rx-7, maybe a supra or a mustang. but i dont know how easily modded these cars are and whether or not there is a lot of parts available for them like the mustang

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png I really like my Rx8, it gets alot of attention and when my son's get a chance to drive it the girls allways looks.

beware that the 8 Love premium fuel.

Sinful7 03-30-2004 11:09 AM

that's another option i would consider.. the rx8! although, i like my 3rd gen a whole lot.

1988RedT2 03-30-2004 11:24 AM

If you've got that kind of money to throw around, you should probably go for a new car with a warranty. I think the RX-8 would be a great choice. Sure, there are faster cars, but the RX-8 has gotten a lot of praise for its beautiful balance of speed and handling.

Finding a good unmolested 3rd gen RX-7 is not an easy thing to do, and its not likely that the car is going to give you the reliability of a new car. Just my $0.02.

Happy shopping. There are plenty of people who would like to be in your shoes. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

In regards to Rotarted...

How many 1k HP FD's do you see driving around?!

Anywho, FD's (chassis code for the 3rd gen) are not that easy to modify. However, it is different. You really have to be careful with what you modify. It is not like a 04 cobra, where you can slap on full exhaust and a blower pulley and make 5xx rwhp. There is a wealth of good info on this forum and other places online. Start reading up on FD's if you plan to go this way now...

Have you driven a FD? I knew i didnt want anything else after i drove one..
