Hey everyone, Im new to the forum and new to rotary, but i really want to learn as much as i can. Anyway the reason im here is that im coming to the point im my life where im going to need to buy my first car. (just graduated from high school and getting a job for the summer) And i want that car to be a FC. Ive looked at several used ones and just wanted to get some advice on what would be better in the long run.



Ok so im wanting to know what kind of mileage is too much, like if the engine is going to blow on me whithin the first 6 months i want to know. Also ive seen a nice 88 turbo II but it had a little over 100,000 miles on it, and then a 89 N/A but in amazing shape with only 68,000 miles, but its more expencive. so what combination does everyone think is the best? high miles/low power/low price, low miles/low power/moderate price, high miles/high power/low price. (of course low miles/high power/low price would be the best but im talking realisticly here.)

How much do you have to spend?



You'll probably be better off buying the nicest low-mileage n/a you can find.

I agree. You should get an N/A for your first mainly for the added reliability, ease of modification, and the prolific amount of used parts available for it. Go for S5 (the 89 you spoke of). A little more horsepower, and alot better looks.

thanks for the advice. i think that low mileage will probably be the better way to go anyway. and i do want an S5 if i can get one. my budget is no more than $5,000 but im hopeing i dont have to spend that much.

You should be able to get a fairly nice n/a for well under $5k. Maintaining them is no harder than any other car; change fluids, spark plugs, filters, all the regular stuff, and it'll run great for a long time. It is not expensive to maintain an n/a FC.



And like mentioned before, there are tons of used parts available. I hardly see any FC's on the road around here, but I know of at least 7 in local junk yards that I can pull parts from.

I just wanted to say that the mileage on the chassis doesn't equate to mileage on the engine in the majority of cases. Higher mileage examples more likely.



Check the compression before you commit if there's any question about the condition of the engine.



I guess I'm not so averse to high mile cars. There all the same age so the electrical systems will suffer the same.

Save your money and get the s5. Buying an s4 is like entering the special olympics. Yeah you might have an rx but you'll still be special. so save your money and get an s5,fd, or a first gen or you can ride the little yellow bus. That is untill the electronics crap out and it catches fire.

I'm pround to drive my S4. Stock S4 with S4 tail lights and bumper covers.
