hello,
i'm new here but i love the rotatory engines. i can't decide wether i want to buy a rx-8 bone stock for around 13k or buy a rx-7 and put 10k into a 3k car. thanks for the help |
It's really a matter of preference, the rx7 is definitely more of a "pure sports car" when compared to the rx8. Are you looking for a track car or a daily driver?

i'm looking for both. i'll be driving to school and work, but i could use a few extra horses.

That's a tough call. I'd say if you're looking for a reliable driver first, get the RX-8. If you don't mind spending a good deal of time and money after the purchase, you could throw the dice and get a 7. Remember that the 8 will be a used car just a few years old and the 7 will be approaching antique status, and not many 7's you find will have lived an easy life. Buying a 7 will likely require a bit more of a "commitment" on your part. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.gif

Personally, I don't think anything can beat a 7. I drove an 8 a couple of years ago and I felt the performance truly paled in comparison to the raw acceleration and power that you feel in the seat of a FD. That being said, I assume that since you found a 7 for 3k, it's probably a FC or FB, I haven't been able to drive one of these, so I have no basis for comparison between these and the 8.
If this is going to be your only source of transportation, I would recommend the 8 as well, due to the reliability issues that plague poorly maintained 7's. There are plenty of mild aftermarket hop-ups for the 8 as well, if you feel that you want something more. |
