I'm new to this forum. I have a 73 RX3 that I had been keeping stock up til now. The 12a twin dizzy in the car now has a seized apex seal. I am going to upgrade the car as part of repowering it.

Most of the rotary heads in my neck of the woods are RX7 fans. Not many RX3's to be found. Ive down graded my planned from a 13bt with a ford 9 inch, to a much more simple conversion.

I stumbled on a older 12a bridge ported engine with 6 mm apex seals. This engine has been overheated but between this motor and the one in the car I'm hoping to build up a good runner. I already have an RX7 diff with LSD. I plan to change over the LSD and disk brake system to the RX3 dif.

I'm looking for advise on the 6mm apex seals and suspension upgrades(shocks, springs sway bars etc.).

Pics of the car attached.

Thanks

very nice project

12A bridgeport nitrous.. simple and tons of power at the cost of a nitrous bottle fill.

I'm planning on using the 45 twin webbers mounted on the car now. It performed very strong with the stock 12a (much better than the 600 Holly I tried before). I understand the 45 webbers will work fine with the bridge port. Would this set up work with nito as well???

6mm apex seals? I have never seen them or heard of them.

Nice project and welcome to the forum.

i like it

My understanding was that the original 12a's in the RX3 were all 6 mm apex seals. I beleive they had durability questions. I think I can change over the rotors in a rebuild to a 2 or 3 mm apex seal, but I'm not sure if its cost effective. I think I want to play with this bridge ported core. Rebuilding one of these engines looks like an interesting challange, a good excuse to purchase a few presicion tools and use them. I'm trying to get a realistic idea of the task at hand before I dive into it. Iv'e been through a number of piston engine rebuilds, I don't know anybody who's put a rotary together and had it make power!!

Anybody put your own motor together out there?

Welcome to the forum bud.

I'd kill for an old school RX project car like that.

Tons of people have, my suggestion is to READ!! Alot! I am still learning new things to this day. Not like I have learned much though. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Good luck.

I have a 72 RX3 with a 12abp on nitrous. I like it a lot. You will have a ton of fun. I dont know how those 6mm seals will handle nitrous though. Arent the 6mm seals made of carbon?

i have a 77 sp and have the 36 webers on a rotary eng. manifold. my plans are for rocker bars in the back (pretty inexpensive upgrade) as well as 1 gen front susp. though i heard it lowers the car but i dont know i f you would need a camber kit. also "re speed" sells rear disc conversions for us based on a 1 gen disc. I think its the bracket(s) and you have to come up w/ the 1 gen brake piecres. I also have a full interior from my sp along w/ some body pieces for sale if interested. good luck-Erik

Thanks for the feed back!

I've determined that the carbon apex seals are not a good seal for NOX and will leave that option for the next engine I build.

I'm going with the front brake set up from http://www.theracingstore.com/main.html

I've picked up an RX7 dif with LSD and a full disk brake set up to transplant into the RX3 diff. I'll use the brackets from http://www.mrcmfg.com/respeed/catalog/inde...290cbc10bd8755b

I don't have a lead on a master brake cylinder conversion? Any ideas???

I need to decide about strut cartages for up front and shocks for the back.

I will probably get an RX2 front sway bar or have one built to the larger bar. I'd like to inprove the rear end grip. I've seen a rear sway bar on an RX3 back in the 80's, but could not find a source?? anyone?????

For wheels and tires I think 15 or 16 inch max will give me the look I want.

I don't know what I'll do for exhaust. Right now I have a 2 inch high flow system. I'll try it first and then decide if a 2 1/2 or 3 inch system is call for!

First step is to pull out the diff for the rebuild. Then I'll tackle the front end. I'll need to decide on a set of bushings for the whole car.

Thanks for the help!

i was thinking gslse for mine i know a guy that usd his rx3 and 1 gen struts and cut them so that he can use them w/ the ability to change springs but keep his ride height the same... the 411 can be found here:rx7club;other rotary; 13brx3 is the persons name who started the thread and its still on page 1 too.-Erik
