I see a large amount of conjecture regarding large singles vs. doubles and was wondering if anyone could fill me in on the pros and cons of each especially when concerning lag and power delivery. I know smaller turbos spool faster but do not produce as much hp and cause excessive back pressure ( I may be mistaken) but big turbos are laggy so why not 2 midsize turbos Or running a small and a large sequentially?? I also have posted a thread about the feasibility of a dana 60 in an rx7 any insight here would be helpful too. I ask because I am or was up until this point a dedicated Detroit muscle guy and am pretty good with the dana trust it and have a couple kicking around the house. And one last thing I see alot about p porting and pp porting and have no idea what it is seeing as I am a complete noob when it comes to rotaries I just like the simplicity and potential. First of all, WELCOME! Second, thanks for the comments on my FD. Now it seems that you have a pretty good begining of understanding the single vs. double debate. I myself am pretty new to rotarties and turbos as I was a GT/302/NOS guy for a long, long time. However, I've gotten hooked up with a lot of good and knowledgable rotary guys and they have been really helpful. One of those guys is on this forum, "herblenny".



Without trying to sound like a noob who thinks he knows everything and giving a bunch of misinformation I will tell you the way I see it from the guys I've been around.



TWINS PROS:

Twins have quick spool and are real feasible for street use as they can make 330 to 350rwhp @ 12 to 15psi fairly cheap. I say cheap but you'll have to spend that money anyway on the basic mods to go single so I say "fairly cheap" because you can stop with those mods and stay with the stock twins and still make good rwhp. There is the option of going with BNRs Stage3 Twin setup and there is a guy on rx7club.com that is making 425rwhp @ around 17psi or so.



TWINS CONS:

Take up a lot of space with vacuum lines (The Rats Nest), Get really hot, "Two" things to worry about tearing up instead of just one, limited hp, limited boost <--350rwhp and 15psi is going to about max for the stock twins (at least to stay somewhat reliable). BNRs Stage3 setup cost about the same if not more than going Single. HEAT SOAK!



SINGLE PROS:

Huge rwhp/tunning/modifying potential doesn't limit you to certain numbers, saves space, saves heat. A gt35r is going to spool almost as fast as the stock twins and then deliver a good punch and can put down huge rwhp numbers way past 350rwhp @ 15psi.



SINGLE CONS:

Not cheap (especially for just wanting a fast street car), Bigger the turbo bigger the lag (which most guys love the sudden surge of torque that kicks in after the turbo spools and gets out of lag). With unlimited potential for hp numbers, modifying can become addictive with drains the pocket book and motor reliability.



Like I said, I'm still a noob so if I'm way off on anything above someone that has been thru these stages personally will correct me.



I myself have been struggling with my future goals and I have discussed this with "herblenny" at length. I am a street car guy that will throw in a few dragstrip days and hopefully a few track days...So, do I want to:



1. Stay w/ stock twins and be limited to 350rwhp

2. Go BNRs Stage3 with a goal of 400rwhp

3. Go Single with a goal of 400rwhp but with a potential for a lot more



Maybe that helps a little.
