Hello, I'm Jim and needles to say I'm new to the forum. I'm also currently being driven a bit nuts over the Mazda RX8. The only thing that keeps me from running right out and getting one tomorrow is the engine. I know your average Japanese engine with proper mantainence will run for hundreds of thousands miles, but I'm leary of the lack of pistons. I've rebuilt a lot of piston engines both foriegn and domestic and I can understand how a lack of pistons would work, but never having seen the inside of one I have no clue as to the friction aspect of this engine. I mean, where axactly does the engine wear come into play. Or maybe more to the point , would I be able to get 300 thousand miles out of an RX8?. Thanks, Jim.

300k miles? I don't think anything approaching a sports car will give you that? There are a load of good vids showing rotary engine cutaways on the web, and on this site you just need to find them.
