Hi, new member here. I'm 35 years old from Little Rock, Arkansas.

I used to have a 1980 RX-7 that was ancient and in horrible shape by the time it found its way into my hands. But it made me fall in love with the rotary engine and I've been dying to drive another one ever since it died (electrical problems that cost more than the car was worth; the engine was fine).

I've been driving a '97 Protege since I bought it new and it's been a great car, but it's about time for something new. I've been drooling over the RX-8 since it came out and I now have the money to buy one. I'm tempted to go for the '09 R3 but I'm leaning towards waiting for the 2010 model to get a 2nd gen. Does anyone know if it's been confirmed that the 16x motor will be in the 2010 model?

Also, I've been hearing some disturbing things about the reliability of the Renesis. Is it mostly a case of people maintaining a rotary engine like they would a piston engine, or is there really a defect in the engine? I don't want to buy a new RX-8 and then wish that I still had my trusty old Protege.

Welcome aboard. I am in Jacksonville, Arkansas and recently joined the site as well. I would stay away from the RX8 as I have heard of a lot of issues but than again it could be related to people having a lack of knowledge about rotary engines all together. Good luck on your search either way and if I were you I would keep the protege as a beater for back and forth to work and such. My back and forth to work car is a 95 Aspire. Sucks to look at but is great on gas. Peace, Jeremiah.

welcome to the site, i'd ask around in the rx8 section or search to see if you get any results on their reliability, and like roboskittle said, its always good to have a trusy old get around town car.. especially if you plan on modifying the car you get.. depending on where you live though, having more than one car may not be practical..

Welcome to nopistons! Like 75 Repu said, ask around in the RX-8 section, and get the word right from the owners.
