I was heading home from Irvine with a friend driving my dad's 93 R1, We were in the fast lane and one lane over to the right and ahead by a few car lengths I see it. I'm not sure it was a Cobra at the time so i tell my friend "Hey is that a Cobra? Lets find out!" So I down shift into 4th gear and head on over. I pull along side this gorgeous blue with white strpies Shelby Cobra. (I don't know my US engine sizes but it was in the 400s, at least the badge on the side said it was) I look over to the right at him and give him the thumbs up of approval that his car is bad assed. He does the same. I look forward and think "I want to see if he'll bite" so I down shift to 3 and shoot away. Not knowing that he was motioning his hand to have a spirited run as well. (my friend saw it and told me later) I left the Cobra behind and the fwy had a slight rise and fall after about 1/2 mile. I slowed down after the fall and waited and waited and waited until finally I saw the cobra come over the rise. Now it wasnt a race or anything jsut a test of one's awesome machines. He came up next to me and waved and that was that.

shelby cobras are hawt..... it was an authentic one? cause there's replicas out there.

You wouldn't of beaten a real cobra.

The real ones were about 500hp and 2600lpds.

You do the math.

Not good enough, I wanted numbers.

Authentic 05-19-2004 09:17 AM

that was a replica cobra as well, since you wouldn't drive a collectible that can go for 1 MIL under the right conditions.

Suprisingly, they were geared super close so on the top end who knows.

Factory Five Racing puts out some sweet kits.

Good folks. Talked with them a couple of time just dreaming....I was actually talking to them about their fundraisers.

Guy here in San Antonio has a nice one painted and Anodized Red with pearl white stripes..beautiful.

They are better than the originals, in many ways.

ptrhahn 05-20-2004 10:22 AM

The originals were more like 2000-2100 lbs, if I recall correctly. At this point, you're talking about a dated chassis design, but it would really be hard to beat a car that light in a straight line.

Thanks Peter, I knew they were light.

i doubt it..they go for over a half a mil

ChunkyMonkey 05-20-2004 08:27 PM

Factory Five Racing has to be the best Cobra Kit maker out there......

amp 05-20-2004 08:33 PM

i understand they are geared more for low end than top....

I would imagine that depends on who built the car and what gears they decided to use.

RotaryXSevn 05-21-2004 11:57 PM

by god man, good job sir, but yeah maybe he wasnt punching it. not saying you didnt kill em or anything just wondering.

GarageBoy 06-03-2004 01:14 PM

The 427 block alone is 10K (aluminum one from shelby) Most likely a replica (real ones are worth 6 digits)

Most likely a replica with a 5.0

Nice kill, anyways!

inanimate_object 06-05-2004 03:50 AM

The only Cobra replica I would consider is the Gardner Douglas. I can't understand why Cobra replicas persist in using a vastly inferior ladderframe chassis, especially since no-one will be able to see it.

Get a GD with the double wishbone option, a nice light V8 under the bonnet (Chevvy Ls1 or Rover v8), keep the weight under a tonne and I guarantee very few cars will be able to touch you.

Mark

Authentic 06-05-2004 08:01 AM

that's true it was a 5.0..i forgot those are common for those swaps if not encouraged.

but he said big block...a trained ear could tell.
