so i've here in the hill country of austin visiting my grandma for christmas. i was board yesterday (you can watch a christmas story only so many times) so i told my mom i was going out to drive my car. mind you, this town has no police, filled with a bunch of old people, and sooo many winding roads. so i went to get a news paper, taking the long back roads.
so on the way back, i see a new vette convertable pass by. i think, its on. so i catch up to it, but some person is in front of him going slow. well, he pulls into the same road as me and he hits it. i throw it in 2nd and start going with him. so we're flying down those curvy roads hitting 60 where the speed limit says like 35. i keep missing 3rd, hitting 5th, then try 4th and hit 2nd, dangit, i'm folding under pressure. finally, get the gear i want and just fly through the roads. (mind you, not to long ago i checked the air pressure in my tires, filled them, the back were low, so i was getting almost neutral steer, little understeer). so my car is hanging there pretty good, trailing this guy, with my turbo whining like crazy. i'm thinking, this is exactly what my car was made for. so we hit a one lane bridge, and he stops in front on the bridge, waiting for a good stretch of road. he hits it and takes off, little tire spin but lots of traction. i do the same, and my car starts hopping like crazy, and i'm red in no time. i throw it in 2nd and start catching on him. go to 3rd and miss again, hitting 5th. he passes some due in front of us, i throw it in 2nd and FLY by, my turbo boosting like crazy 9 psi (lot for me, its stock). so i make 3rd, and then 4th and were at 70 mph in these back country roads! finally i see my turn, throw on the brakes, and turn in, he keeps on going.
aparently he just took this way to have a little fun. i like that, an old man with a nice car that still knows how to use it. to many people just use those vettes for a fashion statement...he pushed it real nice.
so i got killed, but i'm guessing his was an auto. i earned some respect; its cool, it was a blast. i go home tomorrow to SA, plan on taking the back roads for like 30 mi, its called "Devil's Backbone". i can't wait!
