Double clutching (as I understand it) is putting the clutch in, shifting from whatever gear you're in to neutral, letting the clutch out, matching your RPMs to the next gear, putting the clutch in, shifting from neutral to the next gear, and letting the clutch back out. From what I know, its primarily a big-rig trucker technique that would be useless in a drag race.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
This is the correct discription of Double Clutching. And it is correct to say that it is only needed on old cars because they did not have synchros. If you double clutch now you will just be wasting a lot of time. It is a thing of the past - but people still talk about it like it is cool and you will probably never talk them out of it, someone that they look up to probably told them about it.

As for downshifting - you have synchros so there is no need to waste time double clutching. Just push the clutch in and pop the throttle a little. The RPMs will jump it will slip right in the the lower gear and you will be set to come out of the corner.

Good luck https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif
I think its easier on your synchros if you need to downshift quick to hit the throttle and bring up the rpm's a bit. At least for me since I have to to avoid grinding when downshifting to 3rd.... time for a rebuild i guess.
