I am out cruising around and on a local strip I sometimes see some action on. Well this kid rolls up in a completely blacked out RX7. Rims windows everything solid black. Well he looks at me (had the windows down) I look over at him see all kinds of gauges boost and all. Well he revs I hear the blow off valve. The light turns green we both punch it. I manage to actually get some traction I hear his tires kind of hopping a bit. We are both running side by side shift into 2nd pull maybe a few inches on him. I slam hard into 3rd gear and pull another few inches. Nearing the end of 3rd gear he begins making up the distance. I slam into 4th now over 100mph and we are running dead even. I keep running it up and up he is still there. 120mph 125mph 130mph I am finally pulling a bit on him hit 135mph go into 5th now his bumper is at my rear bumper. Well I finally shut down due to the speed and the lack of road ahead and he hits the brakes also. We come up to the next intersection and pull off into a parking lot. He had exhaust chip clutch blowoff valve upgraded intercooler carbon fiber hood and some other crap.
man he was fast though!!! what do those FD's run??? Why did I pull on him in the higher speeds? I figured he would get me there!! So what do you guys think? He was pretty cool about it and I was glad to see a fast 7 in my neck of the woods!! Sorry to post a 7 kill but man he was fast!!!! |
now remember when i told u i beat that 98 z28 w/ 325hp? Good job, i believe u.
|
Still curious as to why I got him in the upper speeds... Normally mustangs are known for the off the line grunt... The only thing I can possibley think of is the fact I am equipped with 2.73 gearing.. which maybe kept the engine in its sweet spot longer?¿?¿
Funny thing though a 98 LS1 Camaro will beat me... now an LT1 I will run with or beat... So why did I win? Man that Fd was sweet and it sounded good and we wher racing (I still have stock exhaust I shift by the feel of the car(tach dont work)) But man that race made me want an FD so damn bad now! oh and on that camaro part... LS1's are great off the line but the LT1's are topend car which I win when they get above 100... I dont really understand this. My car should be loosing in the upper speeds. Only reason I can think of that I may have beat that RX7 is my exhaust is open on just one side. She is more responsive and actually pulls harder with the exhaust like this. Though I do need to fix it! Sounds like a Riding lawn mower on steriods! |
I saw an LS1 in an astrovan Friday, no middle console in the car, just the engine sitting there. It was awesome, sounded so nice, and it was damn fast.
|
How did his car run? He may have been having problems with his car. He should have beat you. I was at the track lst summer, and there was a lightly modded FD, and it was only running low 15s- high 14s. I went and started BSing with the guy, and and he said that he had been having problems with his car.
|
you gotta remember. most of the FD's on the road are broken in some way. low boost no boost etc https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png
|
I saw his boost gauge sitting around 12lbs.
How much do FD's run stock 12 or 14? It didnt sound bad. He probably didnt know how to drive.. I figured his car should be a low 13 second ride.. He had too much crap done for a stock 5.0 to basically beat him... it was a good run and man I want an FD even more now... But I didnt really hear any backfires or any misses. He hit every gear didnt miss a shift... I was just happy to hang in there... FD's stock have more power than a 5.0... it is what 255? and a stock 5.0 is a conservative 225hp |
FD's run 10-8-10 psi stock. he may not be able to drive. with mods fd's are 12second cable with EASE......... they run mid to high 13's bone stock https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
|
Ok so he should of kicked my ass...
Maybe he was shifting early????? Not really sure... I know he should of won but he didnt.... |
His car probably wasnt tuned properly. To me thats one of the problems with these cars, you can dump a **** load of money into them, and if it isnt tuned properly, it will run like crap, and then not run at all.
|
The last FD I was before this one beat me somewhat easily....
so I was surprised on this one...... |
Maybe he was granny shifting, and not double clutching it....
LOL! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif |
lol
He may have blown the welds on his intake? |

Oh yea, the Stang? Got his ass wiped by both of us. |
Not B/S they are that fast!
Just a lot of dumb drivers or something wrong with the car. Oh My car ran 14.8 bone stock I am hoping for 14.4 14.5 now... with street tires.. And thats in a basically stock 89 GT convertible Power everything only nice thing my car has is a 5 spd! But at that only 2.73 gearing.. So thats not too bad. FD's are very capable of turning 13's... FD 1993- 1995 though leftover 95's where being sold as 96's.. But 255hp stock and a fairly lightweight setup! Now I have heard they do have wheel hop off the line but I figure a good driver could get around that since the hop hinders the drag strip performance. Now Road and track ran a 14.1 with severe wheel hop. Now that is a 13 second car!! |

Um, before i call BS, what exactly is a FD? If youre talking 93 up TTs, then ill call BS. I have never seen one in the 13's, let alone a modded one.
Although even if my car only ran 14.5, I'd still take it over a Talon on a track anyday. (Note- track, not strip.) |

You should look around the third generation section before calling BS on something like this. FDs that are running properly can easily get into the 13s with a good driver...of course, the ones with good drivers aren't running properly, and the ones that run properly are sitting in garages. :P |
Makes sense!
lol Yeah Properly running FD should be in the 13's with a decent drive who is familar with his car or her car! Thats why I was surprised I beat this guy!!! I should of gotten my ass kicked so bad that my car would of looked like a metro! |

Well now, lets think here for a second shall we. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png i have a 91 TII, bone stock right now. I ran a 14.5 with a squeeling start the other day at the 'local' drag strip for open drags. Now a 91 TII has 200hp and weighs in at around 3k lbs. Then you have the FD (93+) which weighs in at around 2600 lbs (if i remember right .. maybe a little more, but lighter that the s5 FC [my car]) and has stock 255hp. Its very capable of running low 13s, cause i can just about run a 14 flat stock. I also have my time slip to back it up, so trust me, im not lying. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
