Hey guys/gals, I just bought a '88 GTU last week and I'll be starting the stereo install soon. I've been fabricating custom fiberglass kickpanels for 3rd gen Camaros/Firebirds (my previous car) for awhile. I was thinking of starting the same with 2nd gen RX-7's Would anyone be interested in this? I have a very humble website at www.subenclosures.com. I'm also planning a full-fiberglass sub enclosure/amp rack to go between the rear strut towers. Let me know what you think!

That's cool, man, welcome to the forum. What do the kickpanels look like? How about custom sub boxes to go into the cargo tub spaces?

Shane.Trammell 10-03-2002 09:50 PM

it would be cool if you could do some sub boxes for the verts under the spare tire cover.

sleeperRX7 10-03-2002 10:32 PM

that would be very nice, im planning on doing that to mine if i decide to keep the mother fucker......lol tranny is ******* up https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

Here's a picture of one of the ones I'm making for Camaro's. This is the passenger side carpeted version. I also offer Vinyl covered, but it's a bit more expensive. The RX-7 kicks will probably be similar. They replace the factory kick panel like a Q-form, but they're fiberglass instead of that lame plastic they use.

I thought about the cargo boxes for sub enclosures. It almost seems too obvious. I actually use mine so stuff doesn't fly around the hatch area when I'm driving. They will probably come sometime in the future as a direct drop-in and replace the lid with a grille.

I'm working on a spare-tire box for the '89-'96 300ZX. If I could find a RX-7 'vert in the area I might be able to do the same.

I'll keep you guys posted on progress. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

I would be interested in the kick panel.

Just out of curiosity, can I see a pic of the driver side panel installed...any car will do. I just want to see if it would affect driving. Esp spirited driving.

dysthymia 10-04-2002 11:00 PM

Looks like a quality job, man. Good luck.

Shane.Trammell 10-04-2002 11:21 PM

yeah sometimes these really get in the way of driving if the speakers are pretty big. what size speakers could be put into these? could 8s be done? those would be cool for the verts bc we have the headrest speakers so it would be a great balance for the sound.

After looking at it more closely I think it'll be a chore just to fit 6.5's in there. There's always the option of door pods to fit 8's (although imaging wouldn't be as good). Here's a picture of the vinyl style installed in a Camaro.

Fastrotaries 10-10-2002 10:16 PM

sounds like a plan... i like the door idea better.

Shane.Trammell 10-10-2002 10:24 PM

man this could blast out a vert. put those and some subs in the back. we would have 14 speakers in there hehe

1BADRX7 10-26-2002 04:07 PM

I've had kick panels in my vert(ex) since '96 or '95. I believe an 8" would have fit although the speaker would've needed to be no so deep, or use one of those inverted magnets like the ones on Illusion Audio's speakers. Check the pictures on my site if you're interested.

Shane.Trammell 10-26-2002 04:13 PM

hey man im glad you found the site. i saw your car on the internet a long time ago. What do you have in your car?? is it realy a turbo? what wheels are those and what kit is that?? also i think you told me that you had that roll bar made by a friend?? is that true?

REZN8R 10-28-2002 09:52 AM

Wow, nice car! I don't really like the spoiler, but whatever. The kick panels look nice too. I think I'd try to keep the driver inward a little more though, and angle the tweet out more. I'd also like to enclose the back. I can't tell if yours are enclosed or not.

1BADRX7 11-06-2002 02:07 PM

Shane,

I've been registered just haven't visited much. I'm still looking to pick up another RX7 soon so we'll see how that turns out. Most of what I have on the car is listed on my site. It's not a turbo, although I did purchase(and return) the Paxton SC kit, and sold off my Cartech turbo kit as well. Wheels are made by Volk and roll bar was custom made.

REZN8R,

My tweeters are rotational/adjustable so I can place them at any angle/position for sound quality.

It's good to know people are finally starting to make custom parts for the RX7

REZN8R 11-07-2002 03:02 AM

Working on it anyway. I've still got to get my current orders out before I can start making these.

LongRX7 11-16-2002 08:01 PM

REZN8R,

You said you make fiberglass kick panels for the FD/3rdgens? Have any pics and how much?

LongRX7 11-16-2002 08:03 PM

Never mind REZN8R

looked at first post and found www.subenclosures.com

zeropiston 11-17-2002 04:07 AM

I would be down for a 3rd gen one.

9BASE3 11-17-2002 12:15 PM

I'd like to see one for a 3rd gen too.

REZN8R 11-18-2002 02:52 PM

If someone in the area wants to hook me up with a 3rd gen to play with, I'd be more than happy to make those too. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

9BASE3 11-19-2002 01:13 AM

Damn you far away... What parts would you need? The whole car? Or just the kicks and some depth numbers?

REZN8R 11-20-2002 02:36 PM

I think I'd need the whole car. The kick panels aren't big enough to fit a speaker by themselves. I'd have to mold fiberglass along part of the floor/door sill area. I should have at least prototypes for 2nd gen panels in a couple of weeks.
