im pretty handy when it come to bondo work ( not proud of that but...) anyway i will never use bondo on my own car again. so where can i get the stuff that the pros at body shops use... usually its a pale greenish in color and i cant find it at any local parts store. im looking to fill in the groove where the ugly body mouldings use to be on my second gen.

if your talking about gorrila hair then go to a auto body supply place
"bondo" is a brand by the way, its all polyester filler, you can use that gorrila hair if you want, just dont be surprised when the hairs in it come back to haunt you later on as print thru. A show car will be "bondo" from end to another, there is nothing wrong with properly applied filler, its when its used for dents too deep that it can be a problem |
Try Summit, I think I saw some of that **** on their site a few months ago.

yes, thats why I think he wants the gorrilla hair, that will crack in that area as well
|
anything too deep will develop cracks , the layers need to be thin.. that and well prepped.. the best way to take those moldings off would be to weld them, I think.. but that will require much patience since you have to spot weld them on and very slowly so you dont warp the thin ass metal.. older cars were more forgiving in that aspect since they had thicker metal.. then grind the welds.. again slowly as to not produce too much heat in one area and lightly coat with body filler and block down
|
yeah thats why i was asking. im gonna fill in the body moulding area. im gonna fiberglass it in so it wont crack and SOME strenght... but i guess im gonna use bondo to smoothe it over
|
use JB weld to fill it. Then use bondo to smooth her out.

Bondo brand makes at least 20 different kinds of filler, they are not all the same color. White, green, gold, blue, brown, grey, etc...
and make all different colors of hardner-blue, red, white, etc... |

its just that the "BONDO" brand is actually very strong, strong enough that people pretty much call all bodyfiller bondo. Almost a shame that for whatever reason people think BONDO and they think only of the stuff in the DIY body aisle in the autoparts store.
Plus they own like 6 different companies as well. |
DUpont ?

Everyone HATE's Bondo why?? how else do ya do body work (LEAD??). I use both fiberglass and light bodyfiller. filler comes in lots of colours but i think its all the same?? the only differance i'v noticed between body fillers is the cheap stuff bubbles a little more when curing..

You do body work by removing the damaged panels and replacing them if the damage is deep enough to have issues with the filler cracking. |

What about parts that can't be replaced, and if there is deep damage there hammers and slidehammers. most of the time you can get it pretty close to the original shape that way you only need light coat's of bondo. |

In other words, I bust a fender on the FD, I replace the fender, but if for some reason a bigass rock lands on the roof, I can't just unbolt it and replace with a new one. don't buy the car then if you can't afford to fix it right. If a big rocks lands on an FD roof you can be assured its basically going to be destroyed since the hood is ALUM |

I watched the guy at my dads shop spot weld then slide hammer large dents and they come out pimp, if your good at it and not rip apart the metal |
The guys in the bodyshop I work at use duraglass over bondo.

get the torch and lead out!

Ok i've been in a technical school for the last 4 years in an auto body shop, and my uncle owns a body shop so i have some experience, first off the pale green "bondo" that body shops use isnt actually green, its originally an off white to yellowish color and doesnt turn green until you add in the bondo.
And the bondo is good for the body moulding, its not too deep. Also dont use the dark green fiber glass for the moulding it will crack from too much stress. you could get it from any body shop supplier . |
